Right, Because most players that don’t/can't do their own math often have access to Heroic Mode BiS gear...
Every other class, every other spec loves having Pawn values to determine how much of a gear is an upgrade, what gear they should target as an upgrade. People like knowing without a doubt that a piece of gear is an upgrade, and they like to be able to quantify how much of an upgrade it is. This doesn’t just help people feel good about themselves, it also helps prioritize upgrades (in the case of badge loot).
The masses are the literally thousands of people who check EJ daily while researching their class and spec. Most of them do no post, they simply read. They come here checking for sound, free advice for talent, play style, and stat weight questions. The comment was not directed necessarily to any poster here on EJ, but rather to those that do not post. While the disparity between the top guilds and your average WoW player isnt as bad as it was in Vanilla WoW or BC, most people who read these forums do not have access to BiS gear. While these forums are designed for End Game content, it isn’t unreasonable to post also with more casual players in mind.

Silly thing to say. Concrete example. The Haste cap is a goal to shoot for, not a prerequisite for anything. Another silly example; Amassing a 800-900+ haste set with ToGC available gear. Surely the opportunity cost to do such a thing outweighs the stats in Regen, Spell Power, and Crit that you are giving up. I believe the numbers I've posted earlier back this up.
