Hi im new here and I have a couple of questions regarding the survival tree.
Ive read a few pages of this thread but im wondering abit about shot rotation, and I realize its more shooting priority. Like exploding first, then aimed, sting and steady. I just respecced and ive never tried survival before, so this shoting rotation is abit hard to follow. Do you have any tips in this area?
Also what is trapdancing? Is it running back and forth to the boss laying down a trap? Maybe im just not a great player, but with the more advanced shooting rotation and laying down traps, well its seems HARD!

(SIGHS) Read the thread completely before posting...

Yes. Read the rest of the thread, not just a few pages. Or, try the search function.

Okey, so you expect everyone who has an answer to read all 36pages? Thats abit harsh imo. It would probably be faster to write the answers than the reply you just gave me.

As others have said, this is pretty much all available earlier in the thread. Having said that, I'll give you my experience.
All through BC I played BM and got very used to spamming a macro button as my main attack. After the recent patch, I switched to survival and tried to come up with a shot macro that I could spam and give me reasonable performance. I couldn't.
The strategy I have arrived at is to have ES, SrS, and AS/SS (shift for aimed) on my bar, and just use a priority system for which to hit (others have posted the proper priority). The biggest issue I ran into was having to switch my eyes constantly between my bar and the boss. I fixed that issue by using one of the cooldown/dot tracking addons suggested by others. I personally have decided on Power Auras, but it sounds like TellMeWhen might also fit the bill (as well as one or two others). Edit: I should mention that I also macro KS into my ES, since that button has my highest priority.
Since you get a guaranteed LnL proc from mobs hitting your traps, some people have adopted a strategy of fighting relatively near bosses and stepping forward every 30 secs or so to set a trap. For situations where it works, it appears to be a clear dps win. It also has obvious drawbacks. There is a sort of middle-ground, however. In many boss fights, there are adds that spawn. For those fights, it makes perfect sense to place a trap (particularly a frost trap) where the adds will run over it -- you help control the adds, you get the dps bump, and you get very little of the downside of fighting right next to the boss. This is pretty much the approach I'm taking right now. Maybe when I get the new shot style wired into my DNA, I'll try out true trap dancing myself.

The thread wouldn't be 36 pages long if people read it before asking the same questions over and over.

Ok, I'll bite here. Classes were broken into sub forums on EJ so that we didnt end up with mega threads for everything. This thread alone is over a thousand posts long, so its been hit and miss (the rogues are doing better than we are). Perhaps shot "rotations" should be its own thread (its still early in the 3.0.8 hunter revision, so its probably premature for that).
I put rotation in quotes because I think a lot of us aren't looking at it as a rotation per se (ie. TBC surv was Steady > multi > auto > steady > auto > steady > arcane > auto repeat), but more as a priority system. In otherwords, you have certain shots of varying damage and CD's, so its a matter of deciding what is more important. You would base this on the amount of DPS the instants (or dot) provide, with steady as a last resort (you could think of steady as the new mind flay of hunters, I suppose).
This would appear to be Explosive Shot > Kill Shot > Serpent Sting > Aimed (multi, if not specced aimed) > Steady, and use the highest priority when its available (or needs to be refreshed); at least thats the basic running concept.

Reason: momentary lapse of brain function, had arcane listed
As for choice of words: I think your advice is bad. I expanded on why. I'm not sure why you think the choice of words is poor when it does, in fact, express my opinion very accurately.
For whatever reason, I am currently recieving a lot less personal arena rating points then the rest of my team, they were almost at 1850, and i was still at 1810 rating roughly and we started off at 1800. No d/c or anything similiar. Has anyone else experienced this?
Hi, I was hoping to get some advice. My guild is not currently in 25 man raids yet but we have full cleared OS, Naxx and Stone Keeper 10 mans. Here is my armory link
Im looking for what people think might be my next biggest upgrades gear wise. Im currently hoping for Death's Bite to drop from naxx but am not overly sure beyond that. I have been using Bellator's spreadsheet as a guide but wanted some person to person advice. I also have a nobles deck put together just waiting on the fair to be back in town.
Death's Bite is a great weapon, honestly. Your hit rating is awfully high. Can't see much benefit to going beyond the 8% hit requirement for specials in a raid environment. It doesn't sound like you are executing your rotation well enough. That was the trouble I had with blood. This may be due to latency or interface lag or lack of trying, I dunno. You should be getting atleast 3 HSs before your last OB and maybe 4. The goal is 4. If you can't get 4 with this spec, it's not going to stand out and your rotation gets even more sloppy as the fight wears on. This does vary, though, if there's movement involved in the fight. The more waiting around you do to OB and finish the rotation the less dps you can do. Understand that hitting every rune ability as soon as you can at every point in the rotation is the key to DK dps.
I would find a better sigil, there's no doubt you can get your hands on one. Might want to try a few of the new ones at Venture Bay, you can get them in 5 minutes. The badge one isn't bad either. Up your Blacksmithing to get 2 more gem slots.
A WWS or WMO parse would be necessary to give you more concise guidance. You are really geared. You should be killing Patchwerk faster. Where do you rank within your guild's dpsers?
yes i know my hits awfully bloated, i did it that way for once the betrayer of humanity drops i wont be under hit cap then, basically prepping for it lol
Also my guilds dps isnt low, lack of raid spots, we 20 man most of 25man naxx=/, he usually dies 2 minutes before the timer when we're at 23-24 players.
i Got a wws, its
wws.turkeygoose.net or .com, unsure atm, a fellow guildie runs it, im always in the top 10 when it comes to the boss encoutners, as for my rotation i always manage to get at least 6 HS's in, but when GCD are up ill spam Dc's til they're over with.
im pretty good at the blood spec, i get alot of compliments on my play, but its just that i can never see myself past 4k(other than thaddius) and it kinda makes me wonder compared to everyone else what i'am doing wrong, as for my sigil, i have the badge one, i read the forums and saw most of the people with my spec using the original sigil, seeing as its a enhancement for my hs's, i'am awaiting for the sigil of awareness to drop alongside with the betrayer of humanity.
I got a strange feeling that my single target DPS... decreased a little bit (I rather expected that it will increase a little bit, considering Rake fix; even despite I can't use the weighstone anymore). Of course, one evening of laidback Naxx raid isn't anything that I should base my conclusions on. It's just a feeling that I will try to check more thoroughly on the dummy tonight.
I think that your dps decreased due to the horrible lag in naxx, at least that was my case.
Does anyone know has fist/sword combat spec been changed so sword specialization now only triggers offhand attack? Judging by Recount data, my sword spec hits for around 300+ and crits for 600+ on a lvl 83 boss dummy. As I was using Kel'Thuzad's Reach and Hailstorm, I don't see how could the main hand hit so low, when usual unbuffed mainhand hits are over 1000, crits highly over 2000? Then in the end it says that sword spec is 0.9% of total damage done, which seems too little aswell.
I've been so focused on Hunter/Rogue modules that I did not adequately test the AM-ABar combo. There is a bug in the current version of SimulationCraft in which the Arcane Barrage is not triggering the GCD.
I've deleted the contents of SampleOutput until I regenerate the data and get a new build out.
EDIT: New version is available now.

Now, Shadowpanther has the Mirror rated higher ... I've run the spreadsheet and it rates the Mirror higher ... I also spent some time on the ?? training dummy in SW and my dps output was higher with the Mirror.
The conclusion seems pretty obvious ... but I'm trying to make sure there isn't some intangible factor that I'm forgetting to account for. Did Blizz really create a lvl 226 melee trink from the games top t7 boss that is worse than a lvl 200 badge trink???
