Right, guess I'll help someone before I get my own questions out there.

Gearing a tank isn’t as straight forward as gearing a DPS, you don’t just have one goal (do more) but several (do enough threat, have a high health pool, avoid more hits etc.). You're better off balancing these gearing goals then following a spreadsheet. The Protection Paladin Field Manual has a section on gear, you should have a look there.

I’m a raid leader and recently we have been having quite a few wipes were tanks that were supposed to be beaconed died. The paladin that was assigned to keep his beacon up claims it was up and he was spamming his heals at the time of death. The lack of healing is attributed to a delay between the heal landing on his target and the beacon target receiving the heal.
So my questions are:
- Is there such a delay with beacon healing and is it big enough to make beacon healing unreliable?
- If there is such a delay is it stable so that if you spam heal all your beacon heals land at the same intervals or does it vary per cast and can therefore create variance in the interval between heals?
- Are any other paladins having similar issues and if so, how do you deal with them?
