Not sure what the issue is but when i fix my spec to the same as my armory profile and click recalculate dps im encountered with the gear planner showing everything i currently wear as BIS. Obviously this isnt true as 264 t10 is not superior to 277 yet it is showed as such. Any reason for this or am i simply not using it correctly?
That looks pretty awesome manapaws. I know I would be very interested in something like that. If often find myself wondering if certain items are worth the time/mats to produce and this would clearly help. Not to mention turn me onto markets I haven't even looked at before. I spend most of my time doing glyphs and have a hard time thinking that I could find other professions as profitable for the little amount of time I have to put in but this could certainly give me motivation to try other money making ideas.
Is anyone else finding ICC Hard Modes difficult to survive sometimes? We were doing Lady DW on Heroic last night and the Frost Bolts that got through and the Spirits were a nightmare.
Anyway, I started thinking about it and checking everyone else's HP and noticed something... every other melee DPSer had at least 4k more HP than me, and DPS DKs in similar gear have about 8k more HP. That's not insignificant.
What I found as a great comparison to explain the difference is the Int and Stam budgeting between me and our raiding Ret Pally. Here is what they look like (unbuffed):
Int - 186
Stam - 1827
Int - 707
Stam - 1406
So a 400+ Stam difference between two melee DPSers who both use mana as a source of damage? I'm sure you can guess the reason we're below the rest of the melee DPSers in HP by 4-5k at minimum... it's our Intellect budgeting. Anyone else find this discrepancy a bit unfair, especially when you tag on the fact that our only defensive cooldown is now a DPS cooldown? We have about the same HP as ranged DPSers and Healers, and no reliable defensive cooldown (with 2 piece t10). That sucks.
I'm beginning to get curious about the value of using pestilence(with GoD) during Cinderglacier procs on a single target. I've been testing it a bit.. both diseases get the 20% damage bonus and it doesn't use a stack of Cinderglacier. This would however involve clipping the diseases before you spend your last Cinderglacier proc(and figuring out at what point is clipping like this a dps bonus) as well as changing the priority system a bit for Cinderglacier>Pestilence.
That's pretty much what I was thinking. It seems to me though that with black ice and morbidity, glyph of dark death might be a fairly large dps increase compared to glyph of icy touch (death coil is always one of my top 3 damage abilities next to scourge strike and melee whereas frost fever is usually much lower down the ladder).
Consider's build on the first page, of course, is almost 99% certain to be better than either of ours because, you know, he does the maths.
It's no secret that our items diverse amount of stats has a negative impact on the amount of stamina they provide, it's an issue that will vanish in cataclysm with the stat consolidation - don't expect much if anything to be done before then.
I think it has less to do with INT budgeting than it has to do with AP budgeting. Our gear has AGI/INT/AP and other various stats whereas plate has STAM/STR and other stats. Plate melee is just going to have more stam because that is where a lot of their budget goes because there is no AP on their gear. It's additionally ironic given the fact that shaman base health is only above mages, which means we're just innately squishy. On LDW I focus shock down as many FBs as I can and hope that someone else can get any cast within the 6s CD. While it does hurt DPS to not use SR on CD, a dead DPS does no DPS so you have have to gauge the situation on when is the best time and under what circumstances to use it. Upside is if you're using SR on CD that's a decent amount of reduced damage uptime.
I just regemed ArP. Now I've been reading that expertise cap is important. Is it important enough to gem it? Also hows my character looking? Another question I have is about 2 sets of 2 pieces of gear. Which should I use?
[Winding Sheet] & [Skeleton Lord's Circle]
[Might of the Ocean Serpent] & [Ring of Rotting Sinew]
Do Frostmages still use Frostbolt rank 1 for kiting? The cast can be reduced to a 0,8 seconds cast via talents (i think) and how much haste do you need, to get instant rank 1 Frostbolts?
If you aim at Frostbolt rank 1 as a kiting tool in pvp I haven't seen a Rank 1 Frostbolt in BG's in a long time. However I've been away from BG's and Arenas since 3.1 time and things may have changed.
As a pve tool in a raiding context, NO.
Reason a) Frost mages with icc gear have enough haste already to take frostbolt very close to the GCD
Reason b) Considering Rank 1 of the spell won't be your top rank version of it, its cost (mana) will be higher than Rank 14.
Reason c) Also if you have a spell at 0.8s casting time, you are still blocked by the GCD, making it useless to "spam" that button, you would use your rank 14, get the same effect, and do more damage.
Reason d) Raiding Frost Mages are forced to take Glyph of Frostbolt, wich removes the snare, that applies to ALL frostbolts ranks.
Reason d, is the main explanation of why it's not used.
To answer the second part of your post as previously stated by Neshalin it is not possible to make a spell with cast time "instant" the casting bar will go really fast, but still it has casting time.

Well so far with only 11 people signed up for my ToGC25 GDKP I've decided to take a different approach: For the next couple weeks I'm going to turn it into a pug with minimum requirements. 4.5k+ dps needed to be able to stay in the raid, 5k GS minimum to get in. I'm hoping that turning this into a pug will get some more people interested in ToGC25, and eventually after a couple of weeks of -hopefully-successful pugs I'll convert it back into a GDKP. Thoughts?
