Agreed, they do not accuratly represent a raid enviorment. However, these raid dummies can still offer more than just proc rates and others of that sort. One idea that has bounced around in my guild is something in terms of recruitment. Have new players come and prove some sort of dps benchmark, a goal for acceptance. If nothing else, the rogue leader can test his dps and then all recruits or members wishing to raid must match that or come close, proving their worth in a sense.
I also agree with your final statement: One cannot base a build of a dps test on a dummy.
I wanted to perhaps turn the discussion to focus on leveling. Very soon we will all be leveling, and most of us want to optimize our leveling speed. Optimizing both damage versus mobs and survivability are important.
Any ideas on possible talent specs or different itemazation, such as trinkets (Battlemaster Trinkets?)
Here is my first idea for leveling:

Herbalism has been a big money maker for me lately because of everyone trying to powerlevel their Inscription. Crappy low level herbs are selling for mad cash. Not sure how that will translate as people reach higher Inscription levels though. It also feeds into Alchemy, where Mixology - Spell - World of Warcraft comes in handy for raiding.

Well, I've been doing Hyjal and Black Temple in 3.0.3 with a marksmanship build including Aimed Shot, Barrage, and Improved Barrage. The extra AoE DPS is nice on trash, and Chimera, Aimed, Steady rotation has put me in the top spot on all ranged friendly bosses..

Thank you (and dukes originally) for organizing this. Very nice to see the wotlk changes at-a-glance. =)
Just wanted to add for professions that Leatherworking seems to be a nice dps boost with self-only enchants such as [ bracers] and [ pants]!

Woot, first in both posts!
I did have a question about potions in forms. Has anyone done any testing to see if it's worth keeping the old macro that shifted you to caster form, chugged a pot, then back into bear? It seems like you would net more health from that pot than just taking it straight from bear.
Thanks

Just a small note that I will be playing in WotLK, although under a different name. After transferring to my home server of AD, I found that someone had made another character called Arelenda. Hence the name change. Keep up the great discussion in here, it's been very interesting to see how people are coping with the changes. I will be working on a guide once the raid situation has stabilized a bit and it is time for in-depth analysis. All contributions are more than welcome.

first of all, great topic.
i decide to lvl as unholy with a orientation to AoE, but at lvl i'll prolly roll Tank instead of dps
And i was planning something like this
Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft
i skipped anticipation to get Mark of blood and Vet3War.
there's many reading regarding dps, and i would like some advice about this specc.

Hunters mark Macro.
Look guys im knew to this web site and Im not sure whether i have put this question in the right thread but... I have played MM for 3.5 years and recently changed to BM even though i beat 95% of BM's i came across in dps. I specced BM for the expansion but since ive been raiding with it i put out around the same dps as my MM (if i dont feel like concentrating i do more as BM, if im alert i do more as MM). Problem is BM is boring (imo), it simply is spamming 1 button, along with hitting R.Fire BR from time to time.. I would like someone to help me make a macro when i can renew (or cast) a hunters mark on wotever target it is that im targetting. I think the dps return would be fantastic for anyone specced 5 points in Marked for Death and also 3 points in Improved hunters mark where the spell would cost no mana. So basically by the push of any instant spell i have (arcane, aimed, chimera or even Multi) will also cast Hunters mark. Also i would like some more discussion about the combo of 3 (wild Quiver) 5 AoH and 2 Rapid Killing. Most people tell me Wild quiver is crap, but i think it could have potential.

Im loving the idea of a supremus volcano type spell if it would be easy and quick to use. Fork lightening would be really sweet also though,

Sigh.. I'm a massivley keen fisher.. Always done it in wow, before there where even pools, I've won the fishing contest, I've fished massively through TBC, finaly getting Mr. Pinchy only four days ago.
So I thought I'd at least have a chance at getting the server first. I've just spent the entire night fishing from the moment that Blizzard actualy let UK stores sell it. But no, in their wisdom Blizzard decided to allow people to travel to Northend hours before midnight server time, Server time is supposed to be standard throughout Europe so I'm not really sure how this happened.
I certainly won't be getting my next expansion from a store, not unless next time Blizzard doesn't do this completely stupid thing of only allowing the game to be sold at midnight in Stores and turning the expansion on before that time.
If I was a shop owner I think I'd be rather upset about this and I imagine that Bliz has some explaining to do to the owners of these stores.

Still waiting to get home from work, so here's my feedback
Zones and Quests
I overall liked the way the Zones were designed. Together with the Quest-Hubs you had a clear path throughout the zone. The thing I missed most at questing is an real EPIC Questline that forces you to quest all over the world for some higher purpose than just kill X of Y (i.e. Ony-Pre, Linken).
5-men content
I'm a little bit disappointed with 5-mens from their design because I never felt a real connection from the storyline to these dungeons. You basically went in, downed the 3-4 bosses got your loot and got out with some reputation. You didn't knew why they were evil or even who they were.
The second disappointment is the wing-type architecture of 5-mens. In Classic you had the Scarlet Monastery and LBRS/UBRS as wing dungeons. In BC all wings were for different levels nad had not that much in common, except some interior design. And Wrath is going the same way.
Raids
I really liked Karazhan from its flair, design and storyline. It was a really good starting instance and very well tuned. It also has optional bosses which make it very accessible for starters. As some other pointed out already, the step to Mag/Gruul and SSC/TK was a bit too steep. The same with the problem as a more casual guild which raid to make progress on and how to equip new players.
It was a good choice to change from 40-man to 25-man Raids, because you didn't need to number of people to get a raid started, so you didn't need to pull people with you just to have 40.
PvP
Not a huge fan of it as a Holy Priest, but i like having another way to get to your equipment and not to disturb PvE
Professions
Tailoring overpowered, changes made to Elixirs hurt alchemists like myself, but reduces raiding fees. Juwelcrafting is a must have for good equip. The rest is kinda OK.
Misc
I like the way Blizzard gave everyone more ways to acquire their equipment. You can do state-of-the-art Raid, you can do heroics for Badges and BGs/Arena. Some Professions offer good ways to good equipment, the only way i can think of, that is nor possible is questing.
Best/Worst
Best: Karazhan, Badges
Worst: Consolidation of unique class abilities like CC, Healing reduce from MS to Hunters, Rogues and Shamans for PvP. Please let the classes be unique in more than the color of their spells!

Two hunter builds I am planning to use:
BM leveling build: Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft
Maximizing damage and endurance of the pet, which means higher sustained dps and less downtime.
MM instance dps build: Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft
Maximizing the dps of the hunter. Not sure about mana issue in instance/raid currently, so I may move some points to efficiency if it is problematic.
Any comments?
