I'm typing this on my iPod, so please dont mind typos. I recently made a dk (level 60 now) and was using a unholy spec, but since the patch I got really confused about how to play my dk correctly, so I would really appreciate it if someone could give me a nice leveling build, glyph suggestions, most effective single and AOE rotations, DW or 2h, most important stats and the best proffs for a DPS dk. Sorry for keeping it so simple, but again I'm typing this from my iPod. Thanks in advance!

White auto-attacks however use a one-roll system. The most important thing to take from this, as it pertains to the question asked, is that the crit cap for specials is not affected by avoidances like dodge, parry, miss, etc. Therefore:
The extra 4.8% is there to counter the observed 4.8% crit chance reduction when attacking boss level mobs. Also, since the question was asked above: No, yellow special attacks cannot glance.
Since white auto-attacks are single roll, the crit cap for them would be affected by avoidances. Therefore, you could calculate the crit cap by subtracting your combined avoidance chance (miss + dodge + parry + glance + block) from 104.8%. As long as you are behind the mob, parry and block are 0%. Glance is always 24%. Therefore:

I would be even more awesome if the icons would slide towards a line when you have to press it guitar hero style...
hmm, a guitar controller, some keymapping software and its time to rock the dps charts

Yes, probably. I will do some shooting and keep my eyes open.
I changed my macro a bit anyway, gonna try and see how that works out:
#showtooltip Steady Shot
/console Sound_EnableSFX 0
/script UIErrorsFrame:UnregisterEvent("UI_ERROR_MESSAGE")
/cast Kill Shot
/castrandom Arcane Shot
/script UIErrorsFrame:RegisterEvent("UI_ERROR_MESSAGE")
/cast [modifier:alt] Serpent Sting
/cast Steady Shot
/console Sound_EnableSFX 1
Kill Shot has a seperate cast now, and Arcane Shot has a seperate /castrandom. Maybe that'll work.

1 button mash, still tuning
I'm still fine tuning this, and I'm not entirely sure if a /castsequence or /castrandom would work better. What does work really well is that this macro refreshes Serpent Sting right as it wears off without clipping.
Macro 1 - Adjust the number of "!Auto Shot" to match the duration of your Serpent Sting.
/castsequence reset=17 Serpent Sting, !Auto Shot, !Auto Shot, !Auto Shot, !Auto Shot, !Auto Shot, !Auto Shot, !Auto Shot, !Auto Shot, !Auto Shot, !Auto Shot
Macro 2 - "ActionButton3" is where I put Macro 1
#showtooltip Steady Shot
/console Sound_EnableSFX 0
/click ActionButton3
/cast !Auto Shot
/castsequence Kill Shot, Aimed Shot, Arcane Shot, Steady Shot
/cast [target=pettarget,exist] Kill Command
/console Sound_EnableSFX 1
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear()

Trap Dance? better to TAP Dance!
Instead of trap dancing for your own entertainment... why not TAP dance for everyone else?
Imagine: you could hack in your own theme music, get your Gorilladin and vanity pet to be your back-up dancers (a la Gladys Knight & the Pips), and put an Elvis "Thank you, thank you very much" emote at the end.
I'd /clap and /cheer for that !

I'm a very well geared hunter, but I'm lacking the BiS pieces with hit... [Surge Needle Ring], [Chestguard of Flagrant Prowess], [Torn Web Wrapping], etc...
Here's my current set up:
Night Elf: Inscription/LW - always have +1% hit buff
6/14/51 Build
Melee - [Journey's End][Scroll of Enchant 2H Weapon - Massacre]
Head - [Blue Aspect Helm][Relentless Earthsiege Diamond][Rigid Autumn's Glow][Arcanum of Torment]
Neck - [Favor of the Dragon Queen][Rigid Autumn's Glow]
Shoulders - [Valorous Cryptstalker Spaulders][Delicate Scarlet Ruby]Master's Inscription of the Axe
Back - [Aged Winter Cloak][Scroll of Enchant Cloak - Major Agility]
Chest - [Tunic of Masked Suffering][Scroll of Enchant Chest - Super Stats]
Wrists - [Arachnoid Gold Band]Fur Lining - Attack Power
Hands - [Gloves of Calculated Risk][Scroll of Enchant Gloves - Precision]
Waist - [Depraved Linked Belt][Eternal Belt Buckle][Rigid Autumn's Glow]
Legs - [Valorous Cryptstalker Legguards][Delicate Scarlet Ruby][Balanced Twilight Opal][Icescale Leg Armor]
Feet - [Boots of the Renewed Flight][Scroll of Enchant Boots - Icewalker]
Rings - [Ring of Invincibility][Strong-Handed Ring]
Trinkets - [Grim Toll]Darkmoon Card: Greatness
Ranged - [Envoy of Mortality][Heartseeker Scope]
Other - [Dragonscale Ammo Pouch][Mammoth Cutters]
I have other hit-gear options including:
[Black Ice]
[Pack-Ice Striders]
[Vereesa's Silver Chain Belt]
and many other not-so-great gear options...
As Armor Pen doesn't effect ExS, I just hate having [Grim Toll] equipped. I'd much rather equip [Mirror of Truth] and be ready for [Fury of the Five Flights] when I have enough dkp to outbid everyone else on it when it drops. [Black Ice] is an obvious choice, but I hate giving up a BiS item plus if the feral druid who I outbid on the one time Kel dropped it for us saw me with it, he'd probablly /gkick me.
I don't really trust spreadsheets 100%, they are a great guide, but I think it's a mistake to use Shandaras as a bible. Any thoughts on my current set up versus a 4/16/51 build with 2 in Focused Aim, a little re-gemming and equipping [Mirror of Truth]? At least until I get some better luck with BiS hit gear... I'm not too concerned with the pet dps loss of Focused Aim, as it's really quit marginal.

Hi im new here and I have a couple of questions regarding the survival tree.
Ive read a few pages of this thread but im wondering abit about shot rotation, and I realize its more shooting priority. Like exploding first, then aimed, sting and steady. I just respecced and ive never tried survival before, so this shoting rotation is abit hard to follow. Do you have any tips in this area?
Also what is trapdancing? Is it running back and forth to the boss laying down a trap? Maybe im just not a great player, but with the more advanced shooting rotation and laying down traps, well its seems HARD!

Okey, so you expect everyone who has an answer to read all 36pages? Thats abit harsh imo. It would probably be faster to write the answers than the reply you just gave me.

As others have said, this is pretty much all available earlier in the thread. Having said that, I'll give you my experience.
All through BC I played BM and got very used to spamming a macro button as my main attack. After the recent patch, I switched to survival and tried to come up with a shot macro that I could spam and give me reasonable performance. I couldn't.
The strategy I have arrived at is to have ES, SrS, and AS/SS (shift for aimed) on my bar, and just use a priority system for which to hit (others have posted the proper priority). The biggest issue I ran into was having to switch my eyes constantly between my bar and the boss. I fixed that issue by using one of the cooldown/dot tracking addons suggested by others. I personally have decided on Power Auras, but it sounds like TellMeWhen might also fit the bill (as well as one or two others). Edit: I should mention that I also macro KS into my ES, since that button has my highest priority.
Since you get a guaranteed LnL proc from mobs hitting your traps, some people have adopted a strategy of fighting relatively near bosses and stepping forward every 30 secs or so to set a trap. For situations where it works, it appears to be a clear dps win. It also has obvious drawbacks. There is a sort of middle-ground, however. In many boss fights, there are adds that spawn. For those fights, it makes perfect sense to place a trap (particularly a frost trap) where the adds will run over it -- you help control the adds, you get the dps bump, and you get very little of the downside of fighting right next to the boss. This is pretty much the approach I'm taking right now. Maybe when I get the new shot style wired into my DNA, I'll try out true trap dancing myself.

The thread wouldn't be 36 pages long if people read it before asking the same questions over and over.

Ok, I'll bite here. Classes were broken into sub forums on EJ so that we didnt end up with mega threads for everything. This thread alone is over a thousand posts long, so its been hit and miss (the rogues are doing better than we are). Perhaps shot "rotations" should be its own thread (its still early in the 3.0.8 hunter revision, so its probably premature for that).
I put rotation in quotes because I think a lot of us aren't looking at it as a rotation per se (ie. TBC surv was Steady > multi > auto > steady > auto > steady > arcane > auto repeat), but more as a priority system. In otherwords, you have certain shots of varying damage and CD's, so its a matter of deciding what is more important. You would base this on the amount of DPS the instants (or dot) provide, with steady as a last resort (you could think of steady as the new mind flay of hunters, I suppose).
This would appear to be Explosive Shot > Kill Shot > Serpent Sting > Aimed (multi, if not specced aimed) > Steady, and use the highest priority when its available (or needs to be refreshed); at least thats the basic running concept.

For whatever reason, I am currently recieving a lot less personal arena rating points then the rest of my team, they were almost at 1850, and i was still at 1810 rating roughly and we started off at 1800. No d/c or anything similiar. Has anyone else experienced this?
