Leveling in Wrath, farming instances or Questing + What Tabard-rep to go for

Hello tharr.

Being one of the first people to play the Wrath Alpha, I've seen most of the content and I feel ok with not having to experience every single little fun quest around Northrend. This can be done later with alts. What I want from my Wrath experience right now is getting my warrior to 80 asap and starting to loot whore together a good enough set to start pushing Naxx 25 and heroics.

Leveling in Wrath by questing is huge amounts of fun if haven't experienced the content already, so I strongly advice people not in the beta to level by questing.

Though, as in TBC and before, there are some gay reputations that one need at 80 and here my idea of doing the same thing we did in TBC comes i,: I'm getting 5 nolifers together and running some instance 400 times until we are 80.

As we all know, it's most often a lot better to grind rep until ~reverd and do the last shit by questing since the rep most often isn't lowered for Quests but it is for mob killing gains.

I wanted to create this thread to bounce ideas about what instances to choose and what factions tabards to wear.

Some factions like "The Sons of Hodir" enable you to buy shoulders enchants like http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?item=44136, just like Scryer/Aldor. Though this particular faction don't have a tabard, which sucks. This can be done later though, since we might as well use the scryer/aldor enchants for now.

Blue gear wont stay around for more then a few days after you hit 80, so I personally wont thinkanything about the blue gear when choosing tabard. There are some nice epics however, that should be taken a look upon.

There are only 4 tabards that give rep currently in beta, and they are all level 75 req.

Each of these 4 factions has a JC gem plan at exalted and a head enchant with some stamina and some resistance school on it.

The 4 different factions you can wear tabards from are these:
(according to wowheads factionlist)

edit: the wotlk itemlinks doesnt work, gotta make them normal links :<

Permanently adds 30 spell power and 8 mana per 5 seconds to a head slot item.

head enchant and some ok blue gear, but the blues doesnt matter since they will be replaced so quick.

Knights of the Ebon Blade

Death Knight-faction. Though others can grind it as well. There is a Shadow Vault quest line opens up the phased zone where Ebon Blade has control of the Shadow Vault and u can access the vendors and the Quartermaster is unlocked there. At friendly u can start farming with tabard.

Ok, so check items and take your pick abotu the tabards. but what about instances, which ones should we rape for rep?

Since all we care about here is exp / hour, annoying attunement quest lines will suck and instances like the nexus etc can be disregarded - utgarde keep is just so more easily accessed and takes less time n effort.

I plan on filling this thread with more info here, but right now it looks like we'll be heading straight to Utgarde Keep http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?zone=206 and stay in there until we are 75, get tabard, go back to Utgarde until 77, and then go somewhere else. Where remains to been and I would love input about which ones would be best xp/hour.

Then there is the need for a good group setup.

I'm gonna be running with a paladin friend who can either go retrilol or healing depending what we need. Since retri is of the charts atm in wrath and prot is awesome for tanking trash with all the stuns, I see us going with

Protwarr tanking
Retridps
Shaman resto
+ X
+ Y

Got suggestions for X n Y? Death knight would be awesome, yes, but that wont happen this early.

We need classes to faceroll trashmobs without CCing or stuff like that.

I know what classes wont bring though: lock mage priest anothershaman rogue.

So, has anyone thought about this?
Which instances do you find best for bursting through?
Does anyone think they'll XP quicker with doing quests with the rest of the server? (PVP server in mind here).

Thank you for the read and i hope i wont end up on shitheap!!

The few days gained by mindless instance grinding isn't -- atleast not for me -- a reason good enough to literally skip such a major part of the expansion. Not to mention you'll lose all the reputation gained via questing. Considering that I've leveled to 80 in the beta, seeing it all again on a live character is something I'm very much looking forward to.

Are you sure most of what you posted hasn't been discussed before, in other (considerably better) threads? Not to be offensive, but this isn't anything new. In regards to your last statement, I think hoping for such is an excercise in futility, in this case.

yeah maybe you're right, but well i searched and didnt find anything about farming instances to 80 at all.

And that rep you talk about, most of it isnt very meaningful, is it? Which ones will you actually be using in Wrath and how long did it take to fix those perticual ones?

The quests will still be there to do for rep, but getting a head start and being 80 among the first is a big advantage.

1) Unless experience has been adjusted from when I was 70, instance runs are not substantially faster than grinding mobs outside of instances. Ergo, instance runs should be close to questing speed. Even as a Protection Paladin, I was getting experience faster from well-planned questing than I was from instance runs. (Better groups will obviously help, but I'm not convinced that it's enough, especially for those willing to spec DPS.)
2) You don't gain reputation in instances until level 80 ones, which you won't do until level 78 or so. Reputation from kills also isn't diminished from Revered-Exalted, meaning there's no reason to stockpile quests.
3) The dungeon reputations are honestly trivial if you're running heroics on a regular basis.

The biggest advantages to powerleveling inside instances will be that you have no competition with other groups for mobs, and it cuts down a bit on server instability/lag. Depending on the population of your server, and how far ahead of the curve you are, that may be enough to make instance leveling worth it. In all honesty, though, most people will probably be better off just questing and doing instances incidentally.

Your plan won't work because as Jebraltar says you don't get rep before the top level instances. I think the first one is Zul'Drak which is just below the level cap ala Setthek Halls but don't quote me on that.

Heres how it goes:
Get to level 80.
Wear tabard of the reputation with the helm enchant you want.
Level up rest of reps as desired/required.

Doesn't really need more discussion than that.

If you wanna see rep items in game at the moment, check this Wowhead link sorted by "Added in WotlK", "Requires reputation...any".

The Zul'Drak instance you mention doesn't give rep yet, it's really only the level 80 instances and heroics.

Regarding which tabard rep to go for, both Argent Dawn and Ebon Blade are extremely easy to get up through quests and dailies. The dailies for both of these are equivalent to ~1250 and ~1500 rep respectively, and just doing their quests should get you close to revered easily.

Wyrmrest and Kirin Tor are harder, with Wyrmrest being the hardest. Only quests that give rep are in Wyrmrest Temple from what I've noticed, and they have only 1 daily, worth 250 rep. Kirin Tor hasn't got that many quests either, and the only dailies they have are the normal and heroic dungeon dailies, cooking daily, and jewelcrafting daily, the last of which is ofcourse useless to non jewelcrafters.

So in essence, if you're a completionist going for exalted with all, I really recommend using the Wyrmrest tabard. By the time you get that exalted you should be a pretty long way to exalted with the rest, if not already exalted.

Basically, you want to use the tabards to get your class/spec-appropriate Arcanum as quickly as possible (AC for tanks, EB for melee, Kirin Tor for DPS casters, Wyrmrest for healers). If you're going for exalted everybody, your next best bet is to rep up Wyrmrest and Kirin Tor in whichever order you like. Note that if you're planning on buying the big, expensive mammoth, you get a discount based on your Kirin Tor reputation, and that Wyrmrest offers a Red Drake flying mount. Also note that the Kirin Tor quests are basically non-existant, particularly if you don't level in Borean Tundra, while Wyrmrest quests drop you off somewhere around Honored.

I don't think that you get rep in Gun'drak when using a tabard, it's considered a level 78 instance.
