I decided to try some Science! with a Nax-attuned toon that I had, just to see if it would work. Here's what I did:
- On the last night of WoW 2.4, I logged into Nax-60 on my warlock along with a few guildmates.
- They reported the next day (WoW 3.x live) that trying to log in crashed their client.
- I read here on EJ that others who had done something similar could get hearthed out by putting their beta files into their live directory and attempting to log in.
- I did not attempt to log my 'lock in until post-Wrath.
- A few days after Wrath landed, I logged my 'lock in, and was able to get the following screenshots:

- I am fairly certain that the position that I logged out at was not the same as the position that I logged in at (I think that is typical for logging out in an instance that then resets).
- I am not sure if it's possible to tell if the instance I was in was heroic or not (I'm not 80 yet, and didn't do anything with Nax in the beta, so I don't know what to look for).
Sadly, I wasn't actually expecting it to work, so I fumbled around too much trying to get the character into a raid, so I don't know if I could have stayed in the zone or not had I gotten into a raid within 60 seconds.
While this is somewhat of a "stupid pet tricks" thread, I did think it was interesting that whatever instance ID was used for Nax-60 got reused at 80. I'm wondering if this information sheds any light on the internal workings of the game - I can't think of any use for this bit of trivia, but I figured that someone here might.
