DoTs crits in 3.1

Did a search and saw noone mentioned this.

I am on PTR on Brill and did a test with flame shock. 316 ticks and not one crit. So can confirm that at least OUR dots are not critting at all. It would be nice if they did but I guess our damage over time component is not going to get the dot love as other classes will.

as I do not believe GMs frequent these threads as much as they do their own forums I posted on the PTR testing forum (link)

World of Warcraft (en) Forums -> Shaman dots not critting

Please support this as it will be a significant impact on our dps if all periodic dmg besides ours is buffed.

Locks have the talent Pandemic to make dots crit. As you might noticed, shamans don't have such talent.

Are shadow priests also receiving some similiar ability? I know my shadow priest friend is critting like mad...

I can tell you first hand 'booming echoes' is total crap if it is our equivelant! The 20% damage bonus is hardly noticeable especially when compared to dots critting. After the 'Elemental shaman' fix-patch we were brought up to a respectable level in terms of being worth a raid spot for dps but if other dot classes get crits we will fall behind a lot. The damage is considerable.

Yes, priests received a Shadowform change. Shamans are not a dot class, just as fire mages aren't and they have far more dot damage than we do. The reason Blizzard added these abilities is to make crit gear worth more for those two primary dot classes, essentially bringing them closer to average class' gear options.

Booming Echoes is a spell with a completely different purpose.

Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties.

You can't look at one change in the lock tree and assume that because that buff is bigger than our buff we will fall behind. They are getting a total overhaul and whilst they will have increased utility and a simpler rotation their overall DPS will remain approximately where is is now. The affliction locks in our guild are actually worried that they have had an overall nerf so it is quite possible that rather than falling behind we will be catching up.
