[Resto] Totem (relic) swapping macros

I have tried such macros, like

/equip Totem of the bay
/cast [target=mouseover] Chain heal

or

/equip Totem of the plain
/cast [target=mouseover] Lesser Healing Wave

It really works and puts appropriate totem to relic slot before heal. However, I discovered 2 things:
- Sometimes when healing I got "can't do that" message (when totem needs to be changed)
- I heal a bit worse than usual (I guess 10% worse at least)

Could you please clarify why this happens, how to avoid it and is such macro really work?

I'm pretty sure what you're running into is a global cooldown every time you switch the totems out. That will kill your ability to heal quickly when necessary.

1) If you are casting a heal and click on the macro it will give the message as it needs to wait for the heal to finish to swap items.
2) When you change any gear on your character it triggers the GCD (as the post above mentions), so that effectively lowers your overall healing done during the entire time of the raid.

Just a point of note, Whilst it does trigger a GCD it is not a full 1.5 sec GCD. From my experiments back at the end of TBC it appeared to be somewhere in the region of 0.5 secs (and I believe I remember people confirming this back then). Spamming the macro 2 or 3 times usually gets the spell to cast.

I mean backwards in Tbc where it posible to do it like: Cast your regular heal and in this GCD you could also swap your relic so you dont get the benefit from the previos heal but all the other that may be needed.

so first cast and in this gcd switch the relic might help =)?

A report came in for this thread asking if we could use a macro to swap this thread into the Dung Heap. Sure can:

/equip Moderator's Hat
/cast [target=thread] Lock Shitty Thread
/cast [target=poster] Infraction (Rank 1)
/in 24 /cast [target=Dung Heap] Move Shitty Thread

Fortunately, spells in the Moderator school cause no GCD, so this macro is perfectly legal.

(edit to leave this up for a day or so for my personal amusement)
