Patchwerk question

My guild has been working on patchwerk healing strategy, and something happened that i do not understand. I pulled patchwerk with my blastershot to tank him and after about 5-6 seconds into the fight instead of not losing agro on me, he changed the main tank which messed up a lot of things but we still probably got our best attempt in.

Does anyone know why he would lose agro on me right off the bat like that? He didnt kill me or any off tanks but he did not stay on me for more than 5 seconds after i pulled him.

Please post any thoughts on what may have caused this here. Thanks.

Yes, i shot him started sundering he hateful struck an offtank then he kind of ping ponged off the 1st and 2nd OT's for about a minute and a half during our attempt but he eventually came to me 1 shotted me because i wasnt flasked since i came late and it was near the last few attempts, but then he sort of ping ponged back through the tanks until he killed the 3rd OT and then kiled the other 2 about 15 seconds after. Anyone got an explanation?

Are you asking why he alternates the Hateful strikes on the OTs?

I think he's asking why he lost aggro as the intended MT despite pulling with a blastershot launcher. I was unaware of the powers for said weapon in other fights but clearly this must be the question here.

Erm... wtf. Go back, do the fight again, use /combatlog, l2read :(

Edit - Sorry, i seem to have missed the key question here, that being the loss of agro despite using a blastershot launcher. Now I've seen how beneficial that 1% crit is to a tank, (i'm assuming you're specced for flurry to make the best use of it?) and i cant understand him losing agro on you... Were you wearing your lionhart helm too?

Tell your offtanks not to start generating threat before you do, especially if you don't have shield slams and they do. You can lose aggro on patchwerk, and you can lose it to offtanks.

We downed Patchwerk tonight, only our second kill in three weeks, but on two attempts tonight, one mage (riding the ignite train no doubt) managed to pull aggro. I didn't have KTM open (for obvious reasons) but apparently his threat a few seconds after patchwerk had established a HS rotation was triple the MTs.

I'm fairly convinced that Patchwerk's aggro is far from being completely and exhaustively understood, and until it is, expect all sorts of irregularities.

Erm, it really sounds like the OP is referring to the fact that patchwerks target changes as he HS's the OTs and that he hasnt quite understood the fight. If you read through his post it suggests that the target is switching rapidly (ping-ponging) through the OTs and he has misinterpreted this as the main tank changing.

@OP, i really seriously advise you to go and check your /combatlog and read through who is taking what kind of damage. This will allow you to get a much better idea of who is MTing, rather than just looking at MT targets target window.

you can lose agro on Patchwerk. Ive read everywhere it cant happen but weve had it happen many times while learning and all the times it has happend its been at the start.

The way we got around it was the MT pulls and runs into the 3 OTs. so now you have 4 ppl in melee range. the 3 OTs start autoattacking after they eat a HS (or after a couple seconds) and then you simply watch KTM closely. we normally start Heroic Striking after like 10 sec just to be on the safe side.

Just tell the OTs to go easy at the start and your fine.
