Hi

I have browsed your forum for a while and think of it as a great place to get good advice.

I am currently on a EU server in a guild who has just got MC to farm status and is prepping up for BWL.
I currently live in the UK but am heading home to New Zealand for about 6 months, then I hope to head back to the UK after that. So will be playing from NZ and online in weird times on the EU servers.

Recently we had eye of sulfurous drop, I bid and won it, thinking hey this will be a great pvp toy (am currently going for rank 11) and something to use in BC.

My guild then found out I was going to NZ and decided not to let me have the cores from the bank as I would not be able to raid that regurlarly over the next 6 months. I have said hold on, its a PvP weapon, its not giving an uber debuff like Thunderfury, and besides even with hand of rag, DW fury owns arms or even 2H fury pve dps (assuming similair level gear) so you won't be missing anything at all from raids.
Heck my warrior is currently dw fury with a brutality blade as his best item (all my other gear is crafted, ZG, AQ 20 and teir 0.5) I have no trouble keeping up with and out dps'ing (on certain fights) our mainly teir 1 (with a bit of 2) geared rogues and mages.

So in your opinion, is hand of ragnorus really a pvp toy? - is me having it and not being able to raid regurly over the next 6 months not going to effect anything at all because a DW fury warrior would do more DPS anyway? as I am pretty sure this is the case...

Thank you
Talorn

If you've only just started BWL, Sulf is awesome for PvE. I'm not sure we would have gotten our first Nef kill without our Sulf Warrior.

However, Eyes are like 3% droprate so I'd probably still spend the ingots on someone only raiding "sometimes".

Sigh.

HoR vs 50dps one-handers is not equal level gear. Having a compentent Fury warrior with Sulfuras will do a lot of damage at the gear level your guild has, any half awake player should be able to top damage meters until you are well through BWL if not AQ.

Are you trying to argue that it would make no difference to the raids DPS? Good luck with that.

If they are just holding out on Cores that seems a bit rough.

I've had someone try to make this argument - we got one early well over a year ago and gave it to an active DPS warrior - it has paid off even to this day as a tremendous PvE dps item. No one really had the gear back then to make the bold claim this was some PvP toy only - its a massive PvE upgrade for a guild just starting BWL.

ok thats fair enough, I stand corrected.

I was under the impression that with equal levels of gear a DW fury warrior would be able to out dps a 2H fury warrior who had Sulfurous.

So the guild is right (kind of to hold off the mats for me as I won't be able to raid as often over the next 6 months, as I have been previously.

But then again, with a less than 4% droprate, it will take on average 25 weeks to get another eye, and by then (which will be well into TBC) will anyone even be bothered with Sulfurous any more when it might be bettered by lvl 63+ epics and lvl 65+ blues?

We are only one ignot short (afaik), I have most of the mats, so we could have the Sulfurous next week. Given the possible wait on the next one tho, if I don't get this sulfurous, or guild might not ever be bothered with another one. Also I have paid the DKP and am now in huge debt, and I think if they confirm "sorry you won't be raiding as much so we can't give you the rest of the mats" - I will still have to pay back the DKP.

I don't get why they'd stiff you on mats. The limiting factor in the combine is the Rags drop. Sucks that you're going away, but it's not as the MC mats are sorely needed elsewhere. Anyway, I think it's a load of bollocks that this is some essential raid weapon whose absence your guild will sorely miss. It's a monster for where it drops, surely, but you get past that pretty fast. We gave our one to a Warr (first kill, very very long ago) and the next 5 or so went to Shamans (counting the 2 guilds that later merged into one).

That said, you shouldn't be very surprised that they resent the fact that you took it knowing you'd be going away. Come on.

well i took it after reading debate about such other items such as might of menethil and people saying "meh - it can go to whoever (pally/shammy/warrior) as its just a pvp toy, warriors who are serious about their raid dps are all fury" now I can't remember if I read that here or in the official forums.

So i was under the impression that our raids are not going to miss sulurous (even if i went 2h fury for it) as DW fury was still better, so they would not be missing anything.

Basically my guild is going to have 2 months Dec / Jan where I won't be able to raid as much (only in weekends) so I won't be swinging sulfurous in BWL midweek, yes that sucks. However after that TCB is out and BWL and Sulfurous will likely be forgotten.
