Feral druid fear resistance
I apologize if this has been discussed in another thread. I've searched but I can't find anything specifically on this subject. My question is, does Predatory Instincts help you resist AE fears?
This is my spec: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=0zZxGGsfroeuioVx0z Here's why I'm asking, and keep in mind, this is based solely on my observations, I have not tested this: I have Primal Tenacity and Predatory Instincts. On a Nightbane kill on Sunday, I was tanking, with a shaman dropping tremor totems. It appeared to me that I was resisting around one third of the fears. I didn't keep stats, so I don't know how accurate this is. However, I am 100% sure that I was resisting more than 15% of the fears. This may be due to innate fear resistance, though. Has anyone taken the time to test this? I know the description for Predatory Instincts says "Increases your chance to avoid area effect attacks by 15%", but I don't know if AE fear is considered an "attack". |
Did you have Prayer of Shadow Protection?

Since it's an AoE fear, it would seem most likely that it's being resisted by both Primal Tenacity and Predatory Instincts.
As far as I know not all fears are Shadow based, so Prayer of Shadow Protection might not make a difference (Thottbot classifies all variations of Bellowing Roar as Physical, if that's any indication). |

Ya, I thought Bellowing Roar was physical, as well. But I'm not an expert. |
The felguard has the trained ability called Avoidance http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=32233. I am almost positive this applies to physical based AoE fears, as when PvP'ing during the 2.0 pre-BC phase, I landed exactly one AoE fear on a felguard (typically, I charged the lock, then int. shouted) . The way that it showed up on screen was as a resist.
I know that obviously it wasn't the most scientific of tests, but due to the freshness of the new felguard pet, there was an ample supply of them to blow my shout on. Compare the spell linked above with http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=33869 |
I'm pretty much certain Pred instincts works against AE fears in general, but maybe not nightbanes - my build doesn't have tenacity and I'm sure I resist more than just the "base" amount of fears on most mobs, although on Nightbane I don't think I resist the AoE fear much - as far as I can remember I've only ever resisted it once. Obviously not scientific, but from my experience I'd say it doesn't affect the nightbane fear, but does affect Howl/Scream from warlocks/priests.
