[Warlock] CoA vs CoD

This is pertaining to any boss fight where CoD could be used multiple times. Which is better? I know that CoD is better dps on paper but would the numbers change if you take resists into consideration? Is CoD a guaranteed hit if the spell lands or is it the damage able to be resisted after the minute is up? CoA needs to be applied more than 2x more than CoD but a resist can be seen right away and the spell reapplied. CoA does however have you using the GCD more often. Also is Amp CoD better than an Amp CoA? Obviously the number for CoD will be bigger and if timed right on curator it looks pretty but that is over a full minute. I hate figuring stuff like this out and always come here to get my advice because it is backed up with numbers and graphs etc that i can understand. Someone help me out.

Resists for CoD are applied at spell cast. If it hits, it's doing damage in a minute unless it's knocked off by another debuff (still a possibility, even with 40 slots). CoD is good for fights like Curator because when well timed, it's a fire-and-forget meganuke. CoA can do more damage when you have sufficient spell damage (was attainable in MC at 60, unsure what it is with new ranks), but keep in mind you're casting it 2.5 times per minute, rather than once.

Lastly, with exception of a few encounters, it's almost universal that CoS, CotE, and CoR will do more damage raid-wide than CoA or CoD, with less cast time, and less mana. Topping the damage meters can be fun, but it's the mark of a great player to sacrifice 2% of his damage to add much more to the raid as a whole.

CoD is better because the 1.5 times more (per minute) you refresh CoA you could have got a shadowbolt in. it does however have a partial resist at the end, it getting pushed off = 0 damage and putting all your 'improved shadowbolt proc' hopes in one tick. for guaranteed dps CoA is nice, but CoD is certainly better on paper and if lucky then its time to /gloat.

Amplify Curse is best used on a CoD all the time. (its 50% base damage. 50% of a curse of doom is obviously larger than 50% of a CoA).

my recomended dps curse is CoD.

I've read elsewhere (no links unfortunately) where people have reported that Amping CoD is broken.

Anyone else seen this?

CoD does not consume amp, but I assure you it makes full use of it. I regularly drop 10k dooms on non shadow debuffed targets, I imagine with weaving, misery, and imp shadow bolt up you could see up to a 15k hit. Until it gets fixed, you can abuse the bug by amping a CoD on one target and CoA on another.

why not just amp cod everything? if it isnt consuming the charge.... its like the priests with innerfocus and one of their vamp spells, i had a friend using an infinite cast of them, without ever consuming the charge.

Whilst it would be lovely to be able to spam amped CoD, unfortunately it is one a 1 minute timer and can therefore only be applied one at a time.
