Spellsurge Vs. damage enchants
There was a thread a long time ago that analyzed this situation (spellsurge on a mainhand vs. 40dmg or soulfrost)...
Does anyone either 1) have the link to it (since I couldn't locate it) or two have an analysis of it. I remember hearing that it's proc rate might in fact be 15%. Having never used spellsurge - I have a few questions regarding how it functions. 1) Does the buffs stack (i.e. if you get two within the alloted time period, do you get 2 spellsurge buffs or does it overwrite the previous). 2) Is the proc rate in fact 15%? If not, what is the proc rate. I've seen 3% but that seems quite low for the enchant - but then again, it very well may be correct. Nikitabanana |
Wowhead says the buff stacks, and offers this screenshot (with 3 stacks) as proof: http://www.wowhead.com/?screenshot=view&6.28003#17313
Also, this thread is the one you remember discussing spellsurge: http://elitistjerks.com/f31/t9845-battle_master_enchantment/ |

I've had spellsurge on my healing mace for a few months now and I can say it procs more than the 3% tooltip from my WWS log parses. Unfortunately nobody else wants to sacrifice +81 healing or +dmg on their MH so I can't verify if it stacks. I have a strong feeling there is a hidden cooldown on it since I have not been able to get it to double proc with just me. Ill see if I can pull up some logs and send them to ya. PM me your email. |
I'd believe the proc rate is 15%, but it also has the beloved hidden cooldown of 45-60 seconds, from what I can determine. Usually I can get it to proc from one of my first spells in a fight fairly consistently, so it leads me to believe the proc rate is nice. And it seems it procs off of ANY spell cast, not just a dps/heal. I've gotten it proccing off HOTs (eat that, Scarab of the Infinite Disappointment) and Gift of the Wild.

I have a priest and I _just_ put spellsurge on the gavel of pure light I have and ran Kara last night.

2) It certainly feels higher than 3%, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a hidden 30 second cooldown and the "actual" proc rate being 15%. I don't recall ever seeing it double proc or proc shortly after another proc last night, so perhaps the (http://www.thottbot.com/s27997) 15% as reported by Thott is factored into a calculation with respect to the hidden cool down time to come up with the 3% on the spell description. Overall, I'm happy with the decision of using this enchant over +81 heal, as I'm fond of mana regen and I haven't had any "gee, my heal didn't top him off" type of fights as of yet. I'm also a fan of the synergy this enchant can provide, try having multiple people with it in the same (heal) group is sort of like having a very weak, passive shadow priest. =0 |
The cooldown is 30 seconds I believe, and the proc rate is indeed high, at least the mentioned 15 %.
Edit: I tested this again, and the cooldown is definitely no more than 30 seconds, I was able to get 2 procs 31 seconds apart. On the other hand I have never seen two procs from the same enchant happen in under 30 seconds. But Elendril mentioned in an earlier thread that procs from 2 separate enchants do stack. |
If you're seeing multiple spellsurge buffs you have multiple enchants in the group.
edit: Ah yes as you've clearly already discovered with the cooldown. Didn't someone show that 3X buff duration was the hidden cooldown for most procs? In which case 30seconds would be accurate. |
Does it still proc off spiritual attunement heals for paladins? If so it would never not be up in a shadow priest's group but then again a paladin in a shadow priests group doesn't need mana anyway.

However it was just pointed out to me that paladins are probably twice as likely to proc it if illumination is talented. Paladins get two charges of Pendant of the Violet eye for every heal they cast. Just did a very rough test to see how many heals it took for a proc, taking a 30sec break for hidden cooldown after each proc. 1 heal 4 heals 6 heals 9 heals 1 heal 3 heals Terribly small sample size but does that look like a 3% proc (according to enchant tooltip) to you? |
