Is Curse of Weakness treated differently on mobs than on players?

Hi,

I was reading this thread Curse of Weakness and a guildie and I are arguing over how CoW works on mobs. I think this stems from the tooltip still reading "Physical damage done reduced by 350.", even though it was changed to -350 AP.

He says that it's a flat 10% damage reduction no matter what on bosses, I say it's a 350 AP reduction, and that generally that equates to 10% DR, but not necessarily.

I would just like some enlightenment here.

Also has anybody done any tests on whether Imp CoW is generally worth it if your tank does not spec into Imp Demo Shout?

The tooltip for CoW says "Target's attack power is reduced by 350." This tends to work out to about a 10% reduction in boss damage.

Right. But he believes that on bosses it's treated differently, and it's always a flat 10% DR. I'm with ya, that it's a -350 AP reduction, which generally equates to 10% DR. It's a trivial thing, but he won't believe me unless I get some hard evidence.

When I played a warrior I remember imp demoshout was something along the lines of an 18% melee dmg reduction on bosses (on lvl 60 pre tBC).

Assume the boss has 2.0 attackspeed, that would mean he would hit for 50 less each hit before armor if you calculate it with the math players use for AP.

Most lvl 73+ bosses hit for above 20k before armour and other modifiers. You wouldnt notice a flat 350 AP reduction.

To my knowledge there hasnt been done much research on how mob AP works. My guess is that all AP debuffs get converted into a %-reduction instead.

Hellcry, it's been proven multiple times that mobs do not follow the same rules for Attack Power that players do.
