150 m/5 from Vampiric Touch is on the conservative side. With only 1000 +damage (obtainable without being a tailor and using only loot from 5 and 10 man instances) and curse of shadows, mind flay alone ticks for 600 DPS, which is 30 mana/sec, or 150 m/5. Once you factor in the damage from Shadow Word Pain and Vampiric Touch it's closer to 800 DPS, or 200 m/5. And going crazy with Mind Blast and Shadow Word Death brings it up to 1000 DPS, or 250 m/5.

Combustion is its own topic altogether, and if I account for it I have to account for arcane power as well (averaged out). I'm currently running under the assumption that the total gain of these abilities over their 3 minute duration is, for the most part, negligible.
Aside from some fixes I've added what I think is a very much needed new feature: A talent spec comparison. I've included 3 raid-oriented talent builds with pretty much all the basic goodies: one for fire, arcane, and frost. The talent comparison will show total damage output from each build and tell you which is highest, for your given scenario.

Trying to edit and it's lagging out. I did not lower VT estimation after reading the above post, I raised it to 175

I would like to request if you could do a dps rotation with fireblast and scorch and an AB mixed in.
Something like this...
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/...00000000000000
On the speradsheet it only shows an arcane blast spam for the AB cycle.

Hey Kalman, could you tell me how to insert contextual menus into the spreadsheet? It looks like a lot of people would like a cycle selector instead of just auto-select.

The most recent version I have from Vontre is uploaded.
Vontre:
Contextual menus are done via the Validation drop-down and the VLOOKUP function. The way the sheet is structured right now, it might be a little ugly; if you do a little rearranging though, it's easy enough to do contextual menuing via validation/vlookup. Check out the rogue spreadsheet if you want examples, or hold off until I get the gear page done; it'll use that method.

As promised, I have a first pass on a gear interface into Vontre's sheet.
I'm sure it has significant, major, horrifyingly wrong issues.
FIND THEM. Add pieces of gear. Tell me what's wrong/missing and Vontre and I will get it fixed. There's also a *lot* of modeling that isn't yet done, mostly for onhit type procs. I also model trinkets as averaged over their duration, which isn't really correct for a specified fight length, but we can fight with that later.
For now: have at it.

http://www.radiationnow.net/wow/beta/mage_dps_gear.xls (might or might not work right in Excel)

My first thought was complicated... way too complicated ; / I've been using Irontygres's Theorycrafting for Mages program http://hosted.filefront.com/Irontygre - unforuantely it was never completed and theres mistakes through out the orginal item files... I've modded mine to reflect the correct values and added additional items...
However, i can't seem to get the menus to work in excel, but I'll play around in a bit with your update

The menus may not work in Excel - OpenOffice doesn't seem to save validation information through to Excel formatted documents, which is annoying. I don't know how exactly I'd make it less complicated - it's got to handle gear and sockets and enchants, and dropdowns for each of those (if they were working) are the appropriate way.
Also, it throws a bunch of error: 502s on non-socketed items. These are just visual, they don't affect operation of the document.

Menus don't work in excel, this is a problem for me.
I have to get some actual work done today anyway, though =p

Oh nice, I've been looking forward for the mage spreadsheet to start looking like the rogue one, that way I could make 2 or 3 changes of gear and see what would be the overall benefit instead of only knowing what is what isn't a single upgrade <3 Vontre
Edit: I also just got the latest version of the spreadsheet and it doesn't show any damage increase when I have Improved Scorch on the target btw.
Edit2: Another weird thing I noticed on this new version... I don't know, I'm getting the feeling +hit is not being as good and it used to show me it was, and I also lose like 100 dps from sheet 2.2 to this 2.3.5, what changes caused this exactly? (with obviously the same stats)

I fixed several bugs between those versions. Also, a non-confusing implementation of the scorch/wc values... I don't know. If you have the talent, it assumes it is up already. If not, it uses the settings to see if someone else is doing it for you.

Oh ok! Thanks.
Another question, the haste rating thing added, I have a quag's eye so I should just go ahead and put 320 over there? Does it account for its hidden cooldown and all that though? Because I usually use an Icon of the Silver Crescent + Nelth tear, and I believe the the Icon is a lot better since you'll use it everytime you use combustion, which gives a bigger burst although I know there's not really a way to add that to the sheet. Thanks in advance =]

No it's for modeling temporary effects. The spreadsheet has no idea about cooldowns or proc rates, it just shows dps while you have [x] haste rating.

I was thinking in trying this build:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/...10230010040000
The idea behind it is Ice Shard + Spell Power, for a 150% bonus crit damage, with Winter Chill, A. Instability and high crit items. But this sheet doesnt seem to stack Ice Shard with Spell Power... is a bug, or I'm wrong?
Is my first post here... i hope i havent done anything wrong

Shards + Spellpower isn't a 150% crit bonus for a 250% crit, it's 250% of base crit bonus (50%) for 125% crit bonus, or 225% crits.
And I just checked the sheet, it seems to be calculating crit bonus correctly.

I know that, it seems i was looking a wrong place in the Calculations tab, my fault. It works perfectly. But that build dont have the raw power of another, more common, builds.
Thanks for your help.

Yeah, we're going to be working on a somewhat major upgrade that will include a new features, most notably the gear selector, we'll be refining it and working it into the main sheet more elegantly and such. It will also be updated for patch 2.1 with all the talent/consumable changes and such.
This might take about a week's time or so.

In playing with the itemized sheet I noticed that spellpower ring enchant was coming up at 15, instead of 12. Otherwise it's looking great, thanks for the work guys.

I just downloaded your spreadsheet and is very interesting and enlightening when it comes to certain gear choices. I really appreciate the effort put forth to create this and share it with others.
I do have one question regarding the +hit cap that is not entirely specific to your spreadsheet but you seem to have a deeper understanding of the mage class than most so you would be a good person to ask. :P
I noticed today while on the armory website that when I hovered over my intellect tooltip it showed that affects +hit to a certain degree. In my case (armory link+motw) I have 544 int at the time which tells me I have an added +6.59% to hit. My hit rating is 106 (8.4%) and I have elemental precision.
6.59 + 8.4 + 3 = 17.99%
Can this be right? Am I really 2% passed the cap or is there something I dont know? For the spreadsheet, I can increase my +hit rating to +164 before the numbers cap but according to the numbers I observed above I should be able to lose some +hit without affecting much, if anything.

Int doesn't affect spell hit.
You probably misread +6.59 to crit as +6.59 to hit.
That, or you just found an armory bug =)
