the link posted about this site MaxDPS.com: A World of Warcraft Formula Site - Fire Mage DPS Gear Rankings seems to have different out comes than your spreadsheet when i calculate it out. So what i would be asking is.

1) is your spreadsheet better than his
and
2) when i calculate out the items on his chart in your spreadsheet, i come out with different rankings. so i am guessing that site is not as correct as stated? or am i wrong, is that site indeed have the correct rankings?

edit: i could also not be comparing two items right, or using the proper part of the spreadsheet. =[ but what would you suggest i do / use to compare 2 different pieces of loot to see which is better? i am pretty lost with it, been fooling with the spreadsheet for some time now hhaa.

I noticed that Vindicator's Silk Footguards has 25 haste rating in the spreadsheet. Now you can manually remove it (go to the Boots tab, and look up the Vindicator's Silk Footguards line and enter 0 instead of 25 haste rating), but is it there for a reason I am not aware of? Because it is quite the boost to DPS if it is... Those boots actually are equal to Boots of Blasting for me if that 25 haste is appropriate...

The footpads of madness, 2 lines above them are missing 25 haste rating. Looks like it was just input on the wrong line to me.

Another calculation related bug report:

If you select the "Carved Witch Doctor's Stick", the wand's socket color should be shown as "blue".
However, it shows up as "Red" instead(wrong) and the conditional formatting for the socket bonus value is also wrong.

The actual item is correctly entered into the "ItemDB" sheet, but the calcuations which use the data on the "Gear" sheet are incorrect.

Specifically, "Gear"!cell Z96 should just be "=AP95" where the correctly formatted socket string is located.

Then cell "Gear"!G54 should use the "LEFT(" version of the socket formula like the necklace does:
"=IF(VALUE(LEFT(TEXT(Z96,"0000"),1))=1,"red",IF(VALUE(LEFT(TEXT(Z96,"0000"),1))=2,"bl ue",IF(VALUE(LEFT(TEXT(Z96,"0000"),1))=3,"yellow","")))"

Finally, the conditional formatting for "Gear"!H55" should be "=IF(AI97,TRUE)" and "=NOT(IF(AI97,TRUE))" for blue and orange respectively.

P.S.> It may be worth checking all similar socket formulas on the Gear sheet.

I know it's expected for fireblast to be a dps loss, but I would highly appreciate it if the spreadsheet would actually be tuned to show it, and preferably let you adjust ignite bug as "always" "never" "sometimes" or something like that.

I understood that Fireblast is a DPS loss only in the case of hasted Fireballs. Without haste, Fireblast still has more than 50% of the damage of Fireball, which means it is a net increase in DPS as long as its real cast time is 50% of Fireball.

No, I think galzohar was referencing to the ignite bug involving fireball/fireblast. Check thread [Mage] Rolling Ignites: are they back? for more info (or rather, check my latest post).

If my theory is correct, you are almost 100% of the time getting a DPS loss doing fireblasts doing your fireballs, haste notwithstanding.

My simplistic understanding of your thread: Inserting a Fireblast which crits before a Fireball which crits will likely have its ignite eaten by the ignites from the Fireball. Your hypothesis is that 100% back to back crits will eat one or the other ignite contribution.

Reductio: 0% crit yields a DPS increase when interleaving Fireblast with Fireball. At some point, back to back crits start dropping damage to the point where Fireblast crits are counterproductive. What crit % is required before you start losing damage with respect to Fireball only?

No actually you only got half of the theory correct, although you are right to say that what I mentioned is incomplete.

My thread is about getting > 40% damage from ignite, mostly by having an ignite tick while your fireball is in mid-air. The side effects of this is that effectively a fireball/fireblast crit will end up having your fireball crit disappear.

I was reading one of your posts where you said the Fireball crit overwrote the Fireblast crit.

However, I think my question still stands. At what level of fire crit % does introducing Fireblast into rotation really reduce your actual DPS?

Playing on my personal spreadsheet, I couldn't find a value of crit % where the total damage in an interval for Fireblast rotation was less than Fireball spam at less than 85%. I didn't factor in the bug you were researching where ignites improperly stacked as that requires a haste buff not available to me. With a chain of crits over the entire interval, Fireball spam was the clear winner; with any drop out in the chain, the Fireblast rotation started to regain ground.

Two ways you can do this.

First way: Stat comparison

On the main sheet is a stat comparison table (I4).

After inputing your gear's stats (or gear selector, or armory import if you have office 2000), put in the stats of the two items. Put the first item's stats in option 1, and the second item's stats in option 2.
It should then tell you the dps difference (it compares how much better option 2 is compared to option 1) and bob's your uncle it's done!

Second way: Gear selector

On the main sheet you should see a cell highlighted in green called 'Manual Stat Entry' (Cell A6).

When you click on that cell, you should see an arrow that drops down a box that allows you to choose between :Manual Stat entry, gear selector, and armory import.

Choose the gear selector and then move on to the 'Gear' sheet (press CTRL + Page down, if you can't find the worksheet or your sheet selecter itself is bugged).

Voila! Put in the gear you currently have and then switch between the two pieces of gear you want, and you should see a box in the gear sheet that shows your dps change with the two different items.

Hope this helps, and if this isn't what you were looking for, then sorry :P

yeah, that does help, i was just wondering if that is how you do it... secondly can anyone explain if maxdps.com is a good thing to use or is accurate, because right now it doesnt look like its very accurate. if it was, that would be sick.

forgot to say, thank you for your help too!
