According to Vontre, the maxdps site is fine, and the only thing is that it uses a 1 roll system.
I won't go too deeply into the specifics of the roll system, but it seems that most people agree that spells work on a 2 roll system, while melee dmg works on a 1 roll system.
The 2 roll system suggests that crit is based only on the spells that hit.
First the WoW client rolls a number which decides whether your spell is a hit or a miss.
Then the WoW client rolls another number which decides whether your spell is a normal or a crit.
The 1 roll system suggests that spells will either crit, hit, or miss.
So if you have a 30% chance to crit, it means you will crit on all spells, including your misses.
That being said, there are people who do not believe in the 2 roll system, and hence the maxdps site is a good alternative to those who want to see their dps based on a 1 roll system without having to download any spreadsheet.
You can enable the 1 roll system in Vontre's spreadsheet on the mainsheet in the Misc table (cell B57).

Not sure if you already changed the 23 dmg on shroud, but here's how you do it anyway for those that might want to.
1. Go to the Itemdb sheet (its the last one).
2. Go to row 1505. You should see Shroud of the Higborne (it's spelt that way in the sheet).
3. Go to the spelldmg column (H).
4. Write 28 in the blank cell
5. Done!
Tell me which items you are having problems with in terms of gem socket bonuses, and I'll see what I can do.
To add gems
1. Go to the gems sheet
2. Select a row in which the gem is categorised in (ex: your Shadowsong gem is in the red/blue section, hence select row 21).
3. Right click the row number, and click on 'Insert'.
4. Add the gem title that you want (I suggest sticking to the '[red/blue] +6 dmg/+6 stm (glowing tanzanite)' format).
5. Move right and add the values of the gem (use the columns to see which stat is for which column).
6. The type of gem should be marked at the end under the 'Red' 'Blue' and 'Yellow' columns. If your gem is red, put a 1 in the red, and 0 in the blue and yellow. If your gem is purple, put 1 in the red and 1 in the blue, 0 in the yellow.
I hope that helps
