Shaman Threat issues(enhancment)

Hello

I am trying to understand the shaman aggro issues. Ive heard that spirit weapons isnt reducing threat on wf procs. Only on normal white damage(not a reliable source i might add). And can anyone state some numbers on how much threat UR or SR creates. I been running kara and having huge aggro problems. Even if i get BoS i can still pull aggro of warrior tanks even if i hold back in the start. Just trying to figure out why.

Been trying to search the forums here and didnt have any luck.

Thanks in advance guys.

Install KTM and find out how much threat your warrior is generating. It sounds like the problem might not be you.

Currently I need a tremendous row of crits and wf procs to grab agro of our MT if I give him a 6k-ish head start. With BoS, I don't even pull agro off a bad tank.

UR procs no longer produce any threat, that was fixed in the last patch. I'd be surprised if SR generated threat, but I've never looked into it.

Some tips:
1) KTM is a must. Make sure everyone's using the same version. Figure out the tank's average TPS and your average TPS, and you'll be able to calculate just how much of a buffer you need.

2) Wait for 5-6k threat to build up on the tank before you unload. If you're not pushing the threat cap, slowly inch your start time down to 2-3k. All depends on your tank's TPS. Try to float at 80-85% of the tanks threat. That'll allow you to stop attacking if you get an unlucky WF quad crit and should still keep you under the 110% mark.

3) Hold off on ES except for interrupts. It has no innate threat reduction modifier, so it's less damage/threat then your melee attacks.

4) If you're still having problems, stop downranking WF. Switch to WF 5/5.

5) Get Subtlety enchanted on your cloak. 2% may not sound like much, but it adds up.

If none of the above solve solve your threat problems, talk to your tanks. Make sure they're going balls out on threat generation for even the trash mobs. If they are, then it's not you, it's them. 6k threat should be more than enough of a threat buffer to avoid pulling aggro.

And sometimes nothing will stop a flurry of crits and procs which can mean certain death. I have a clip from the other night on Tidewalker where I landed 2-3 quad procs with multiple 1900s in each. He turned and had at me. (Granted tidewalker's debuff on MT is rough for aggro)

A few tips to remember:
-Enhancement shamans scale REALLY well with consumable buffs. I will go from 7-8th on an unpotted attempt, to 2nd-3rd with flasks/pots. This means your aggro will greatly increase with pots running.
-Something I use to help mitigate aggro is not attacking until I lay my totems down. Once we are in position to attack, i'll drop my totems and the 4-6 seconds that takes, allows the tank to build some initial aggro. Nothing is worse than starting off 2 seconds into a fight with 2k windfury crits.
-On my last Hydross kill, shocks accounted for 4% of my total damage. That tells me that I can probably get away with doing it a bit less, and maybe saving some mana for spot heals. As stated above, shocks are not covered by spirit weapons.

One thing that I'll do sometimes is switch out to a 2h or throw a sheild on if i'm close on threat. That eliminates the chance for 4x wf hits, but still lets you keep dpsing.

If I'm playing well, I'm pretty much threat capped on everything for the majority of the fight. The main challenge is just finding something productive to do during that period of time. Usually I just spin in circles and spam /train.

Shamanistic Rage definitely causes aggro. I found this out during one of our Morogrim kills when a dozen murlocs chased me down after a flurry of +600ish mana procs. I haven't done any testing myself, but I would assume Shamanistic Rage causes aggro just like most other mana gaining abilities. 0.5 threat for each point of mana gained before threat reduction modifiers.
