[Tanks] Threat Per Second Considerations

Ok, I'm not sure I'm in the right place, if this belongs under UI mods then I apologize and will report for public flogging...

As we move forward in Karazhan and Gruul's Lair, my guild is finding that some of our tanks may not be generating the TPS they need to in order to succeed. I've dug up every gem about cooldown management and Threat per Rage/Threat per Second (Since TPR doesn't play much when you get hit as hard as we do in TBC) etc...

Now that I've given my warriors the tools they need to succeed, how do I go about tracking this to see what their actual threat numbers look like? I know KTM will show me their current TPS and thats a decent tool for mid-raid analysis of who's going to pass you in threat, etc... but this isn't something I can watch when I'm not in the raid, and if I am in the raid, I certainly am more concerned about doing my job than evaluating theirs...

Thanks,

--Darke

I havent heard of any mods like that but try telling your dps to take their biggest crit multiply that by 4(incase of procs, tank misses, tank stuns, ect.) to stay below their respective threshold by that whether it is 110% or 130%. That allows our guys to ride the aggro pull line as close as possible. It has worked pretty well for us personally. In TBC tanks have bigger issues with staying alive so I think your dps classes should be able to step up to the plate and manage their own threat. If it is a huge issue have them opt for more stam gems rather then added dps ones so they have the potential chance of lasting longer throughout the fight.

I know you were looking for a mod answer but incase of their not being one I went with the logic answer.

If you got your hands on their personal threat statistics from their KTM you could use it to get an idea on how their cycles look. Of course this isn't very good data if it's on trash (unless trash is the problem) but if you could get them to save the threat data for a boss fight you could analyze it and figure out their approximate threat cycle.

This could of course be sensitive as it may seem you don't trust their ability to play their class but if you could get that data along with their weapon speed it could maybe answer some questtions you got.

If you get their weapon speed and the number of normal swings and heroic strikes you got the passed time (of course this is offset a little by them parrying and/or flurry/bloodlust). And you got the number of shield slams, devastates, sunder armors and revenges aswell as demo shouts and thunder claps.

I just thought of this so it might be hard to analyze but it could be worth it

If you're only interested in their tps, fraps a fight (KTM visible ofc) and watch it afterwards.

Also; analysis of Recap can give you an idea of what moves they were doing (although not WHEN). Recap allows you to save data for future use so you can look at it on your laptop, when you've got your cup of coffee, and your feet on the table.

I'm pretty sure that by using a damage meter mod called SW Stats, you can pick out a player in the raid and see how many times they use each ability over the course of a fight/raid. By doing so you'd be able to tell whether or not they were really pushing the envelope or not when it comes to TPS.

tanks can get pretty bad miss streaks...at the start of a fight this can be bad.

for massive threat do:

sunder, sunder, revenge, shield slam while using shieldblock when cooldown is ready and using heroic strike everytime you have enough rage

if you have 5 sunders and you devastate is > 200 damage you can swith to

devastate, devastate, revenge, shield slam while using shieldblock when cooldown is ready and using heroic strike everytime you have enough rage

the thing is, from time to time (if you are the only warrior) you have to do some debuff stuff. thunderclap, demo, commanding-shout. if you want to do this at the start this are ~5seconds of nearly no threat.

If this is an issue at least have another warrior handle the Thunderclap and Demo shout.

If you're the only warrior, like he said, that's not really possible.
