Mage DPS Spreadsheet by Yes

Hio. I figured I'd finally make a post with this.
Updated it for 2.1 Fixed a bug where crit rating was not doing anything (!!). It looks something like this: ![]() Input data in green area! I am eager to hear feedback and suggestions Enjoy. |
Hmm, I think you posted this before in the TBC Mage Theorycrafting thread. Can't this information be found already in Vontre's spreadsheet? Is there anything different that yours has to add?
|
Could you throw in some rotations into the mix?
Vontre's spreadsheet focuses on ending fights with no mana and over-emphasizes the ability to dump mana via arcane blasts. If this can be a straight "what DPS can you attain" spreadsheet that you can sustain for X seconds, and it's very easy to use (I like the drop-down menus a lot), then it oculd be helpful. |
Leto: I took a look at the spreadsheet of Vontre's, and while you must note that I build my tool without knowledge of existence and without intention to compete, complete, or anything of that sort, I personally think that my simpler and easier to use tool will give accurate results on expected real world dps.
All someone has to do is put in their overall stats into the corresponding boxes, put in the talent tree they wish to see and adjust a few modifiers for what their raid group has or does not have, and they are given what I believe a very accurate gauge of various statistics of dps, dpm, etc for a number of chaincast spells, and soon every realistic rotation. Not to mock Vontre, but I don't think that apple was shunned for releasing an ipod, even though people could already carry a boombox and a headset with them. I don't think it is wrong for me to release my own interpretation on theorycrafting mages even if that work has been done differently and perhaps more extensively already. Perhaps someone would enjoy using my interface more so. Tempestra: I am going to implement these: Chain fireball with keeping scorch up Chain fireball with fireblast Chain fireball with keeping scorch up and fireblast Some sort of AB for threat sensitive fights (ab -threat is superior) If I get to it I might play around with AM, but realistically speaking the above four rotations cover anything else, other things will do less dps and dpm (Like say, frostbolt/fireblast) and are not really worth putting in over implementing other things. |
Yes, I'm sorry my comments came across as shunning, I meant nothing of the sort. I was just curious what the goal was, as it is generally more productive to build upon the work of others rather than start from scratch.
Improved usability is good. I'll try to mess around with it and see if I have any suggestions, looks good so far though. Edit: Messed around with it a bit, entered my stats and buffs from Gruul last night and it came out with a 3300 avg fireball, which was about right. Seems pretty accurate to me. |
I thought I'd give this a bump as I fixed a major bug and updated for the new patch.
|
Very nice work, but I have one major bug...
On my of the dropdown Fields the Selection Possibilities are messed up... For example for the 2/5 tier 5 Bonus you can either select 1 or 01. Februar.... Would be cool if you could fix it, or just say which values we have to insert, so that we could fix it ourselves. BTW I have Excel 2003, maybe its based on different office version.... |

I use excel 2003 as well and I do not see that bug. However, can you try sending me the file that is bugged so I could take a look?
Fow now I will enter accepted values in the comments: new file |
so whats the most dps you've managed to get from this, with the best possible gear? i have no clue what the best gear is, since i don't play a mage ;/
|
With around 1100 spelldamage unbuffed, and a raid setup giving you most possible buffs/debuffs you could want and .25 latency and all consumables but no worldbuffs you could do around 1600 dps sustained.
|
Wow, great work... this is very nice and tidy indeed!
