One fight I had trouble tanking (as a 41/20 holy/prot, though) was heroic Capacitus. Maybe I outgear the encounter (unlikely, ~11k unbuffed hp, 490 def, ~30% dodge/parry) but after about a minute I was down to having JoWisdom up, ret aura, SoR/JoR and rank1 consecrate, which basically really threat-limited my DPS crew. Would my threat and longevity be improved if I was full prot?

Certainly your threat would be improved by HS, which is a spectacular mana:threat ratio, but I'm a little surprised that you were running OOM on heroic Capacitus. I often have (some) trouble keeping up threatwise on that fight, because my DPS has the damage buff and I don't the way we normally do the fight, but mana is normally not a major issue. OTOH I'm probably spending it a little slower than you are because holy shock is expensive.
