Eye of Magtheridon v. Quagmirran's Eye

Currently, I stand at about 8.24% hit rating with another 8% from Suppression which lends itself to a 1% chance for EoM to proc off of my DoT casts. On the other hand, my DD spells will have a ~9% chance to activate this trinket.

Quag's Eye suffers from an internal cooldown and I believe its proc rate is approximately 10%.

I'm curious which of these trinkets is better to equip for the current realm and for 2.1. Obviously, the value of the EoM decreases as I increase +hit rating, but for now, I would like to know which of the two is more beneficial.

Personally, I'd never use Quag's eye on a boss, and would always go with Mag's.

Considering your rather high resist rate, you'll get that trinket to proc a lot. It's a strange one that gets better the worse your hit rate is. IMO, the people who get the most use out of it, are those who can burst their damage. IE Fire Mages, Destruction locks. Frost mages won't get much use out of it since they are just spamming frost bolt.

On the other hand, one thing ot consider, is that it only counts for FULL resists. I spammed moonfire on a felhunter to get it to proc, and it partially resisted over 50 casts before I got a full. I'd imagine that'd be annyoing with that trinket equipped in a raid.

As well, the Quag's eye is not a DPM increase, merely DPS. In a lot of fights you'll be stressed for mana, and the trinket doesn't help that.

The only way I know of to calculate how useful Eye of Magtheridon can be is to figure out your cast rotation, then from there figure out the procs per minute. After knowing PPM, you can multiply that by 170 then divide by six to get a rough estimate of how much +dmg it will give on average.

The math is awful and it won't reflect how procs can overlap. It also won't reflect how many spells can be cast during the proc. For my rough math, it gives an average of 5.15 damage per a percent to miss for pure Fireball spam (3.3 cast time = 18.18 casts per minute => 0.1818 PPM at 1% miss => an average of +5.15 damage). Your math is more complicated. It's also very inaccurate when it comes to overlapping procs or calculate the number of spells that can be cast in one proc. But for rough estimates, it should be ok. As a side note, the same base assumptions gave Frostbolt spam +6 dmg/miss percent.

Quagmirran's Eye is also more complicated, because it doesn't reduce universal cooldown. Unless your (lag + universal cooldown) * haste is greater than or equal to universal cooldown.
