When is too much Dodge

Hey hey. .heres my guy. .
http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/#c...oon&n=Akranger

My question is when is too much dodge? Im still waiting on stupid pocket watch and i figure i'll be close to 29-30 with that. Im a mitigation tank and have never had problems with rage tanking gruuls/mag/SSC/Kara. .so dont rip into me too much on the lack of block value

Im not having a problem but i figured i'd see what you all think about a HIGH dodge rate.

While a think a substantial dodge rating is good, the drawbacks of having an extremely high one would be a) lack of possible rage as you're not getting hit on b) if you do get hit, incoming damage would be streaky and I think most healers prefer to heal steady damage over spikes.

Imo, you can never have enough dodge from agility

There's definitely a point where threat becomes an issue with too much dodge though, around 65% avoidance you start to see dramatic drops in your threat due to being rage starved at random points. It can really suck on the pull if your DPS are being sloppy (or just need to go fast like on Mag) but there's always misdirect for that.

I'm aware of it's terrible returns, but for stacking avoidance and not having to worry nearly as much about threat, I would kill for the ability to parry.

Healers tend to 'prefer' steady in the same way that the sun is 'sort of' warm or someone is a heroin fancier.

A bit of hyberbole, but it's something that many tanks seem to lose track of. It's almost never steady heavy damage that kills a tank, but that big 1-2 hit (possibly followed by a 3rd which finished you off because healers couldn't recover in time). Damage streaks kill massively more often than being hit more often for less would have in numerious cases, which is one reason that druids are somewhat competative, and AC is often undervalued. The tank sees 'no hits' and assumes that that's always better, so gears for it.

However, I'm not going to look at your gear and say 'too much avoidance, not much other'. I don't know your healers, I don't have personal experince much past Kara, and I think that a blanket statement could be misleading at best, misinformative at worst.

Have you considered building a secondary set that focuses more on Stam/AC? I'm sure you're not looking forward to filling your bags with yet more gear, but there are quite a few fights where you might be able to produce more steady threat (I know you said you don't have rage issues generally, but I'm sure you occcasioanlly end up a little starved) and/or taking steady damage will be king for some reason.

problem is with the mainsteam stam stuff ..i did that and not only do my healers say im easier to heal now with the dodge i've gone for ..but i rarely see myself less then 50%hp. .before Gruul would knock me down to 20% during a silence once or twice a fight. .but now i dont ever see myself below 50% . With Huge hit. .around 14k. .i dont see how hp would help . .i could only stack on another .1500 stam anyway. .that wont keep me alive.

If you have the gear, you could build several types of tank gear (Itemrack to the win). Some fights are indeed better for high dodge while other favor brute stamina and mitigation. That way you have the best of both worlds are your call and the other drawback is even fewer bag slots for other stuff.

I too have been working on getting a higher dodge rating as parry ratings are harder to maintain. Keep in mind, my gear isn't spectacular at the moment, just starting off in Karazhan after some problematic groups but we do ok thus far. We are not a heavy raid group but all enjoy doing them.

My problem lies within that I have always been a dps warrior up til about 2 months ago, so the transition is quite different. Healers seem to be fine with the more dodge as they don't have to heal as often. I was thinking on getting it to around 24-25% and then gaining more on Block rating. Rage generation seems fine, although a better weapon will help I would think as well.

So I guess my question would be, should I continue with the way I am building my gear, gather another set like suggested for more hp/ac or mix n' match?

my page is here http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/#c...oon&n=Domoniac

Thanks.
