I don't see the justification for leaving Spellsurge to paladins. In 2.1, the proc is almost guaranteed to go off once per minute, for 100 mana to your entire party. It's not a proc that depends on a lot of casting (i.e. paladins), but merely time -- and thus is quite valuable.

Figure one proc per minute, works out to just over 8 Mp5. And that's completely ignoring the benefit to your party.

I think every priest should have two weapons: one with Spellsurge, and one with +81 healing. Optionally, get a Nightstaff and plunk +20 spirit on it (WTB +35 Spirit Enchant, PST).

Ah, I hadn't noticed the change in proc rate in 2.1. That does make it equally useful/useless for all healers.

You suggest two weapons, one with Spellsurge and one with Healing. But when would you use one vs the other? Depending on how many mana users in your group? There are basically no fights where I'm completely and totally out of mana having used potions on every cooldown, but +81 healing always provides some (albeit small) benefit.

We're currently arguing on another thread about whether or not the enchant is weapon-bound or character bound. You may be able to use the Spellsurge weapon until it procs, switch in your healing weapon, use it for 50 seconds, then switch the Spellsurge weapon back in.

I basically use the healing enchant weapon for trash, the spirit weapon for prolonged "break" periods ("taking a nap, cover the tank"), and the spellsurge weapon for regular boss fights. Gives me some flexibility as well, if a boss fight is particularly intensive in one respect or another.
