Rogue: Haste rating with the new sword spec

Now that sword spec is considered yellow damage and doesn't reset the swing timer, I was curious as to what implications that would have on long term dps with weapon haste taken into consideration. Items such as the dragonspine trophy and the new skyfire diamond metagem seem to be a pretty amazing dps increase. I'm not really the best math guy, but I was wondering if anyone had a formula or a reliable way to calculate the haste rating increase with sword spec in mind. Any constructive input would be nice.

There are two rogue spreadsheets designed for answering exactly this sort of question. For your specific question, I'd recommend the Rogue Gear Spreadsheet (Rogue Gear Spreadsheet, as it's a bit more detailed in it's modeling of some of the new haste effects.

The short answer is: swords own.

Both rogue dps spreadsheets don't accurately take into account haste rating with the new sword spec. There are too many intangibles to take into account and bottle it into a specific spreadsheet. especially considering increased weapon haste leads to increased sword spec procs.

...which is modeled in painstaking detail in the spreadsheet I recommended.

Besides which, if the behavior can't be modeled, how in the heck are we supposed to discuss the topic intelligently?

Increased haste leads to more attacks. More attacks lead to more Sword Spec procs, yes.. but also to more crits for dagger/fist rogues. Swords really don't gain any more from haste than fist or daggers.

I'm not trying to downplay the amazingness of haste, just point out that daggers and fists benefit just the same from haste.

Not exactly... Sword spec is more auto-attack oriented than daggers/fists. Haste really is better for a sword build.

Thats fair I guess.. but honestly I'm getting 55%+ white damage. Sword Spec is what, 60-65%? Meh.

In the end it's the total damage that matters, not the % white and yellow though.
i'm hoping for Dragonspine sometime soon, very interested in playing some calculations with that little thing.

I am a big fan of haste rating myself.

As you can see from my profile i tried to get alot of hasteproc effects together.
dragonspine, abacus (no proc ofc ), double mongoos, thundering skyfire in headpiece.

And I have to say it is pretty amazing, I am almost always under 2.0 Attackspeed, sometimes getting as low as 1.15 with the mainhand (bladefury+snd up, no heroism).
Together with the new swordspecc my dmg has gone really up. If I get a lucky procc streak with haste and combat potency I am limited by the GCD to spend all the energy I gain, i call it my "Small AR" .

I don't know excactly how SwordSpec is treated (ppm, or flat %), but tests with and without haste items have shown, that the faster I attack, the more swordspec proccs i get.

I am really looking forward to all that fine leather pieces from BT and Hyjal with build-in haste rating.

"...gone missing."
