It looks like RED will not be fixed to work with spells again. They are however planning to add another meta that "fills that gap".

Then, with RED:

Auto Attack: 144 / 302 - 209.7%
Sinister Strike: 265 / 643 - 242.6%

Not entirely clear what's going on with the white crits without RED, but it does appear that RED is increasing them further.
I investigated this a bit myself, and after 15 minutes of stabbing rats and a respec, the answer seems to be that Murder applies twice on crits. On regular white attacks one does baseDamage*1.02 damage; on crits, one does baseDamage*1.02*2*1.02 damage, which is why it's showing up as 204% of base damage.

Also, apparently "critters" count as "beasts".

I think all the talents that increase damage against certain mob types count twice on crits. The paladin talent crusade works exactly the same.

This is peculiar because you can see from my earlier posts in this same thread that I tested on the exact same mob types before 2.2.2 and had white crits of exactly 200%. I have not respecced in the interim.

Crusade is doing 200% on auto attacks as well in 2.2.2
Whatever they did to change the meta gem has messed with these talents as well. Testing in 2.2.3 shows crusade is back to 206% like it was before the meta gem was changed.

I just wanted to point out that Drysc's post has been edited to provide the stats of the soon-to-be caster metagem.

Yes, we do plan to make a meta gem that fills that gap. 12% spell crit, 3% crit damage.
I'll assume that he mean 12 spell crit rating. Still, if this meta make it live it will make me a happy warlock . *Praying for smart requirements*

Are you sure it's base*1.02*2*1.02? That would yield ~208% base damage.

I was messing around hitting beasts and demons the other day (5% troll racial for beasts). I was seeing white crits with/without RED vs demons were 206%/200%, but vs beasts I was seeing ~221%/~215%.

This seems to indicate the slaying is more akin to base*1.05*(2+.05), and the RED is tacked on after for another 1.03 multiplier.

1.05*2.05=2.1525
1.05*2.05*1.03=2.217075

Those match my testing pretty well. I admit I didn't collect a lot of data. I just stabbed with a [Dirk] a few times and took the biggest hit and biggest crit. I figured if I saw 158 and 160 noncrits, 160 was the biggest I would see.

It's Base*1.02*2*1.02, which is 2.04 times a noncrit which does Base*1.02. It's 208% of what you *would* do without Murder on a noncrit, but it's 204% of what you actually do, with murder, on a non-crit.
