Druid Tank Guide?

Hi there

Since i was thinking about rerolling druid, i am now looking for serious Class mechanic input
I did search in this forum, but didn't find a thread where the basics of druid tanking are explained. I found the DPS and Tank itemization posts, but no kind of "Tank Guide..." Something like Zorcs or so^^
Could you please give me some links?

Any information are welcome. About how to tank, how mechanics work, formulaes, stat contributen and so on... Everything a new bear should know

thanks in advance

str > sta > agi

Is the leveling formula...you will be in cat form mostly to level. You will put all points into feral up to until you get mangle (if you are a PvP person, consider a few points in Furor and 1 point in natures grasp)

Once you hit you late 40's and early 50's start to worry about Armor...and start to main tank 5 man PUGs to get a feel for what to do...tanking is a skill you have to learn.

Once you get into ypr 60's and are in Outland...STA gear will become more avail. There are pleanty of threads on Bear Tank gear but your new sucess formula will be:

Armor > sta > str > agi

A casual non-raid player should shoot for around 20,000 Armor and 14000 hitpoints self buffed in Bear form at lvl 70. Work on your cenarion expedition faction....lots of bear stuff including the Earthwarden.

I would also pick up Leatherworking and Skinning to make your own armor. You can make some very functional crafted stuff end game (heavy clefthoof).

Thats a LOT for a 'casual' player running around in blues, even if they're good crafted blues (Clefthoof). I can see cracking 20k armor / 10k health without purples but not a ton more; I know I gained some 2000 hitpoints this week with two or three upgrades (T4 Shoulders / Gladiator Helm / Heroic Mana Tombs pants; +9 sta in blue/yellow sockets (+12 in T4), +6 agi in red, +18sta / 5% stun resist in meta).

Of course, I stacked armor to 25k so that may have been why my hitpoints were lower than normal (I'm just starting to get some good avoidance/stam gear).

I am not your personal Frost Deathknight knowledge base. If you have a simple question, ask in the simple questions thread; if you have a more esoteric, specific, or complicated question, ask in the spec-appropriate thread.

My PM, WoWmail, and, especially, chat boxes are NOT the appropriate places for these questions.

Thnks so far for the information.

Is there any reliable Cat DPS Spreadsheet? I mean there's a spredsheet for nearly every class o_O

Cat wise I personally consider Emmerald's work to be pretty decent - http://www.gurgleblaster.net/emmeral..._DPS/Head.html . His bear modelling methodology's open to debate so I'd treat that section with some caution (too high a value placed on stamina in particular, debate over value of armour as well though).

Good thread for cat dps discussion here's Feral Druid DPS which also includes some other spreadsheets which are well worth a look too.

So I was going to make a post similar to this one, but I was going to ask you guys about an optimal tanking spec for a bear. I tried to post it yesterday, but the EJ forums were acting up.

My main question is:

Feral Aggression, worth it? None of the Warrior tanks in my guild have Imp. Demo Shout, so at the moment I am the only person specced into this in my entire guild. I've been considering dropping it to pickup Intensity and *maybe* 2/3 natural shapeshifter or 2/2 Savage Fury (I dps alot when not needed, as do most druids).

It really makes more sense for a warrior to spec into it as the improved warrior is better than the improved druid version. I have 3 points in it which could admittedly go elsewhere.

I have a -/47/14 build, with no Natural 'shifter. My question would be is how effective is powershifting for dps, especially for those with moderate (say 400ms) latency?

I don't think savage fury is worth it unless you solo or pvp a lot. Most of your kitty dps should be coming from shred and rip. I also skipped brutal impact because it seems to be mainly a pvp talent.

How do people rate Primal Tenacity? I didn't take the equivalent talent on my priest, but it might make a bit more sense for a tank, still 15% isn't going to change the mechanics of any one fight much.

The feral druid is a different beast altogether.

That was pretty much my feeling as well, and I may drop it. I just need to convince some tank(s) to pick it up.

yeah, I've been running 1/49/11 (Furor, Naturalist and OOC in Resto; Nature's Grasp in Balance) because I do Arena with the character, and I'm trying to balance that with tanking. Not having 5/5 Nature's Focus is a little painful in Arenas I never power shift, as I found it to be pretty much not worth it, even though I am a relatively LPB (90-150 ms).

Well, we all grind. And shred is so hard to pull of well in arenas.. but that's all it would be for. I specced out of it when they nerfed Mangle (bear) and probably won't ever go back.

My question about PT is this... It seems that on AoE fears/stuns that predatory instincts works (as well as against damaging attacks). Would Primal Tenacity add another 15% resist to aoe fears and stuns? If so, that's almost worth 8 points, for pvp anyway. Rarely an issue when tanking... you either need 100% fear immunity or you don't.

A nice tip is to pick upp skinning as one of your professions, if only temporary at 70. No need to go through the painful process of leveling leatherworking as a lot of decent items are boe and the recepies are easy to get so a lot of leatherworkers will have them.

A good semi-start for eq would be.

Stylin purple hat (boe LW-item), put a enchant from revered CoT.
Neck bought from revered cenarion exp.
High warlord shoulders from some honor grind, pretty fast and easy
Clefthoof chest with green +stamina gems
umberhowls collar wrist, quest reward
verdant gloves, quest reward (requires arcatraz-run)
manimals cinch belt, quest reward
clefthoof leggings
clefthoof boots
rings from durnholde and/or ramparts
trinkets, preferably armor-trinkets like UBRS-reward if possible. Or a +def or stamina one.
For weapon, keep a look out for braxxis staff of slumber on AH.

This set will be semi fast to get, not very expensive and requires no exhalted grind. Of course you want to improve it later if with earthwarden etc but this would be a decent start.
