[Hunter] Trap Mechanics

Dear Elitist Jerks,

I am a new poster on here but I have been reading these forums for quite some time. I have the following questions regarding hunter trap mechanics:

1. Does freeze trap have a "heartbeat break"? I tried testing this for several days now and I am getting mixed results. (There may be an answer to this already, and if so, I apologize for reposting.) Most importantly however...

2. What is your view on Trap Mastery (5% reduced resist chance per point for the total of 10%)? There are some that say that only one point is required. Others says that two points help.

I suppose it comes to this: what is the base chance of trap resist of a mob the same level (5%)? what is the base chance of trap resist of a mob that is one level above (6%)? what is the base chance of a trap resist of a mob that is two levels above (7%)? what is the base chance of a trap resist of a mob that is three levels above (I presume this sky rockets, but at the end of the day it is not applicable as there is no level 73 trash). I also presume that the chance of trap resist never drops below 1%. Now, that's regarding trap resist on the first freeze.
In other words, when the mob first steps into your trap. This leads me to the next question.

Assuming there is a "heartbeat break" on traps, does Trap Mastery help with preventing such breaks?

Thank you in advance for all your feedback and input.

I don't know for sure, but I can tell you that CC on our last Kara run seemed cursed. Shackles and traps alike were being broken quite early the whole run. I think I had only one trap last near full duration and the shackles were just as bad. I've never noticed it happening to that extreme before either.

If it didn't the talent would be almost useless. Make of that what you will.
You will get less trap breaks with 2 points in Trap Mastery. If you will be relied upon to trap things and not die, you need these 2 points (and Scatter Shot).

With more experience of the dungeons you will be able to manage without these talents.

If it works on spell cast mechanics:
PvP: 3% to max so 1 point would cover it. (target always has 1%)

PvE:
Target Equal Level: 3% or 1 point
Target +1 Level: 4% or 1 point
Target +2 Level: 5% or 1 point
Target +3 Level: 16% or 2 points with 6% miss to cap

I can't think of a single raid target that is 73 that needs a trap, so it sounds like waste. However, if you take those points leveling than the likely hood of you trying to trap a target +3 is goes up.

Spell cast mechanic? Well it reuses an existing codebase so why not?

Trap resist rate is the same as spells. That's to say 4% resist on same level, 5% on +1, 6% on +2, and 17% on +3. Since Heroic/Karazhan/TK mobs are no higher than 72 and you can not reduce resist rates below 1%, only one point in trap mastery is needed here. Frost resistance does help against freezing trap as well so if you can get it, CoE would help.

As for earlier breaks, I haven't actually gotten any in a long time. Anytime I've had a CC break early I've seen it dispeled by an NPC or broken by a player.

I definitely had traps break early last night in heroic Shattered Halls. I have no points in improved traps.

1 point is the best return per point if 'spell hit' mechanics are employed, yes.
