[Mage] Experimenting with this scorch build

I am old raider (3+years experiance) and i am tryng to be casual.
After tryng various specs to do dps - wanted to make my dps interesting and not just spaming one key - i got to try serious scorch dps builds.

Heres my profile :
http://armory.wow-europe.com/#charac...Emeriss&n=Irmo

I was always big fan of crit chance so as you can see here - i have over 40% crit with fire spells , 44 to be exact with the nukes i plan to use - scorch and fireblast.
With blessed wizard oil and adept pot i break 46% scorch crit chance ( didnt have a chance to try with moonkin or elemental shaman yet).
Another thing is that i am using /stopspellcasting thus increasing the number of scorches i can put for the period i am dpsing.
My scorches crit for ~1800+ignite (total 2500 dmg) and they crit alot.
I know ppl are tossing fireballs for 3k hits , but thats with gear few classes better than mine.

The problems i face with this build/gear is the +hit constraints , i get ressisted alot(raound 10%) in grulls lair and above.
But as i said - better gear will result in more +hit.
I usualy spam scorch like crazy (with stopcasting trik of course) + fireblasts when i have shadow priest in group and arcane blast when i want to save some mana and do less agro at the same time.
The big pyro nuke - i wait for clearcast and then shoot the hell forwards - with clearcast proc i have 70% crit chance on that pyro.

So far it was interesting and entertaining to see me first on dmg/threat.
Btw i wanted to try http://thottbot.com/i27924 to see if ill become unlimited mana machine , but didnt have time to get the marks yet.
Anyone has a comments on my build/gear choices - feel free to post. Thank you.

PS : I know my offhand sux , so do some other pieces. I am tryng to be casual !
And btw i am getting the new glagiator staff the moment they release it so ill be with good weapon after 1 week

well, since you only got like 32 hit rating in your gears so anything is out of the question, you will get big resists 24/7, i mean big ! so i highly suggest you redo your consideration

Well as i said - my gear isnt the perfect example for SSC or above , On grull i had 10% scorch ressists (arcane does not ressist 98% ot the time).
Staff will give me +24 spell hit raiting and i can put Cenarion Expedition exalted ring for 21 hit raiting more.

tier4/5 will give me more +hit (if i ever touch that gear pieces :P )
Gear isnt the point for discussion here , i was asking for opinions on build/crit chance + scorch idea.

For grins, I put your stats into Vontre's mage spreadsheet (available elsewhere on this forum). With your current build, it puts scorch and fireball kinda close at 738 and 778 respectively. If you switch to a more standard 10/48/3 build, with your gear fireball spam leaps to 923 DPS vs 710 for scorch spam. So assuming that spreadsheet is correct (which is generally agreed upon), I guess you need to decide whether being able to slow-kite on Moroes is worth sacrificing ~20% of your potential DPS.

Taking a lot of your crit and turning it into hit raises your DPS considerably as well. Basically, there is a reason 10/48/3 with lots of hit is the "default" raiding mage setup. It sounds like your current gear and build would be great for getting started on PvP, though.

Yea, I have to concur with Docjowles... 34/27/0 is nice as a PvP/PvE compromise, but you'll lose about 20% of your potential DPS, even if you're stacked towards crit. However, a Scorch build also has increased (20-25% more) mana efficiency... so if you're finding mana to be a problem, Scorch may genuinely be a better build.

Also, for any calculations done with Vontre's sheet, make sure to adjust your latency... it can have a huge effect on Scorch builds in particular, as latency affects them more.

On that note, I may change the distribution to default to .2 seconds since stopcasting is becoming more and more common. Current default should be .33, which is standard for a non-stopcasting user.

Edit: Oh and what Docjowles said. This is simply not a great way to do raid dps. Sorry. Pick up blazing speed/improved blink and you have a good pvp build, however.

Raiding is full of challenge. Sometimes there is fire. You have to not be in the fire.

Something to note about scorch spec's and latency, scorch is one of the easiest spells to stopcast, since its cast time is exactly one global cooldown. As long as your ping isnt spiking largely, you can stopcast it near 1.5 seconds every time. (This is from personal experience with my dodgy elemental build spamming scorch in raids).

Also of note is the greater dps boost on spell hit/crit items like the capacitor provide to help make up the dps difference. You will still do less dps (and you should), but it shouldnt be quite so pronounced.

That's a good point about latency. I'm hijacking my girlfriend's computer right now, but I'll update my numbers with a lower latency value if I remember on Monday. It'll be closer, but probably still not "close". I'm only wearing some trashy Karazhan gear, don't reliably have a shadow priest, and still rarely go OOM (with smart consumable usage). It would have to be a long fight indeed before scorch spam overtakes fireballs, I think.
