Melee AP to Crit comparision

I am trying to figure out, in as stripped back a way as possible how AP compares to crit for mainhand white weapon damage, so ignoring any specials, chance to hit and stuff like that at first. If there a threads that cover this kinda of thing please point me in the right direction, i have had a bit of a look around myself and haven't found anything useful yet.

So my question is are these formulas suitable for determining the amount of damage received from AP and Crit. This assumes average damage and it calulating the dps bonus damage of the stat.

AP bonus damage = (AP/14*Weapon speed)
Crit bonus damage = (Average weapon damage + AP/14*weapon speed) * (Crit rating/22/100/weapon speed)

22 is the conversion from crit rating to crit %
100 is converting it to a percentage
weapon speed is taken in to account as if you only hit once every 2 seconds you have half the chances to crit of 1.0 attack speed.

If there are any major things i have missed or done wrong please let me know, any feedback is appreaciated.

Read the intro.
Fill out your talent.
Fill out your gear.
You can now see your theoretical dps. Both buffed and unbuffed.
Play with talents and gear.

Check the "next_stat" tab.
There you can see the increase of each stat to your overall dps.

You are forgetting many things in your calculation.
Talents increase crit damage and crit chance.
There's differences between swords, daggers, fists, maces.
There's differences between buffed and unbuffed dps.
Basically, the better gear you have, and the more buffs you have, atp becomes less valuable, and crit becomes more valuable.

Btw, the best thing to increase your dps, is probably to look at +hit.

Thanks heaps for the reply. I have used the DPS calculator you linked i found it very useful, and it actually what lead me to my current line of thinking. When comparing gems of equal value, invariably +16AP beat everything else in overall dps both buffed and unbuffed ( with + hit often coming a very close second).

I am also aware of the huge range of things i have left out, at this point i just want to make sure my base calculations for comparing the damage bonus from the 2 stats are correct.

I should have stated that my aim at this point is to find a way of predicting what will give you the most DPS if you increase it, and hopefully even at what point the balance shifts. I wanted to start with AP and crit as they are the easiest to model, and they also seem to have the biggest gap in terms of benefit.

Based on the 2 formulas i listed the advantage of AP seem way to big and the point where they become equivalant seemed to high so i thought maby i had done something wrong.

I am working on my +hit atm, no much more i can do yet until i get some more drops.

The talent that increase crit damage only do so for specials, however the meta gem is a static bonus. The idea initialy is you enter in your relevant stats (assuming post talents) and it tells you what stat will give you the most benefit. And possibly even to generate a graph to show where certain stat become equivalent in value.
