Anyone played around with rotation changes with the new patch?
Was messing around in BT tonight and noticed a significant increase using a Heroic>Devestate (x3) then Shield Slam rotation, easily hitting 1200-1300 tps with no pots/perfect grp (no bs, no shammy, no druid) and only 11 expertise Rating, obviously relies on an abundance of rage, but can substitute revenge for heroic if rage starved and drop to a normal rotation. With the reduction to parries/dodges, even at 11 expertise, im seeing alot more rage to use, which for non avoidance fights, lead me to believe a full block value set, with the expertise items added would be far better than a "normal" Tank spank set we have atm.
Anyone else tried different rotations and got better results? With perfect group i can see pushing 1400 tps in ideal circumstances.
Heroic isn't something you put in a rotation, Heroic is a rage dump. The standard rotation for max threat, once 5 sunders are up, is still Slam/Revenge/Dev/Dev. Then whenever you have extra rage you use Heroic. Substituting any of those 4 essential keypresses with a heroic instead will only lower your TPS.
Now, when it comes to TPS since the patch, yes, it's absolutely gone way up. I have a 30 expertise 8% hit set and it lets me land every ability/attack I make on trash, making 1100+ tps extremely easy to obtain. With steady rage coming in allowing for a good amount of heroics, 1500 sustained TPS was very possible as well.
As for bosses, even swapping in only a few Expertise pieces, paired with the changes + human racial (<3) netted a large TPS gain, and greatly minimized the streakiness and annoyance of dodge/parry strings.
I also put Executioner on my Mallet (threat weapon, expertise+mace+human is a huge boost), and was enjoying the larger numbers, however, the actual threat gain isn't going to be too signficant compared to Mongoose.

Given you are replacing a white swing with a heroic strike and that HS is on a separate GCD from your instants, I don't see how you can possibly say that you are lowering your TPS if you use HS.

You don't "substitue" anything out of the slam/rev/dev/dev rotation to use HS. You use HS along with that rotation, and given that HS is always going to be more threat than a white swing it will increase TPS.
I have to agree that the HS, being that it doesn't detract from any of the other essential attacks, is more than just a rage dump. If you had to choose between a white attack that glances and a yellow that doesn't - yet doesn't take any time away from the rotation... which would you choose?
Tyler was saying he uses Heroic in place of instant attack abilities, and includes heroic in a "rotation". The only abilities that go in a tanking rotation are Sunder, Devastate, Revenge, and Shield Slam. White attack + any of those is going to be more threat than a Heroic Strike.
Tyler also said "if you don't have enough rage [to heroic], you can use a revenge instead" or something to that nature, implying he isn't already maximizing the usage of dev/dev/ss/revenge with no time wasted.
Basically you always prioritize one of the non-heroic abilities over a heroic. Times when you don't are when you're going for burst threat (mob threat wipe, so even if you may be threat limited you use a queued heroic + Shield Slam), or when uh.. when uhh.. yeah I think that's it.
When generating threat well into your rotation, you should only ever, ever, EVER be using Heroic with excess rage. If at any time using a Heroic causes you to miss the pressing of a SS/Revenge/Devastate, you just lost TPS!
Did some more testing on Teron after the devastate buff...seems like a large increase in TPS. I don't have the WWS, but I did 366,092 threat over 313 seconds according to recount(1169 TPS).
Edit:No buffs except battle shout. Could've also been partially due to the change in weapon expertise, as I was not benefiting from most of weapon skill due to my near hit-cap.
Here's something that might help out people wanting to play with Expertise, or if they lack it to begin with. The Feral druid ring from Lower City exalted reputation, which used to be Feral Skill, was changed to Expertise. So now it's good for more than just druids!
I have been wondering, where are the global values sitting in order to have a nice 'balance' of TPS/mitigation/avoidance.
Today I'm sitting around (unbuffed):
HP:15.5K
Armor:16604 (61.13)
PA:718
Hit:3.30
Critic:16.41
Def:553
Dodge:25.22
Parry:18.12
Block:38.67
Expertise: 15 value (no rating)
I usually get a sustained TPS around 800-900 (without extensive statistic data gathering which I'm trying to get now).
I could change a couple of pieces to get more expertise and hit by lowering the avoidance but I don't want to go too further to avoid being rage starved, not having my shield block up and eating a nice crush of +8k.
We're running BT/Hyjal now a days (not farming) and these numbers will help me prioritaze my possible loots and share with my colleagues the nice drops our ML has for us
Im currently sitting on 30 dodge, 20 parry, 30 block atm and have no rage issues at all on bosses, funilly enough i had rage issues on a boss using my block value gear instead of my avoidance/mitigation set. But yes, with weapon skill change u will get more misses with only 3% hit, need around 140 hit still ontop of the expertise needed to reduce missed hits to only parries which will give you more rage and more tps.
I recently added a mail function on Threat Calculater where u can write in a mail form if there needs to be done any changes to the calculater or have any ideas...
The link for the mail form will become active after u submited a wowwebstats link...

UPDATE
WWs updated their layout, I think this broke your TPS calc.
From what it sounds like the problem was you weren't able to get the correct time, after looking at a couple WWS reports it looks like the total time of the fight can be found in the <span class='chrono' /> inside the <div id='t_summary' /> element, so if you are parsing the page out you could probably find a way to reference it from there, or if you have the page stored in a string you can get the seconds with the following regex "span class='chrono'.*\(([0-9]*)''" Hope this helps.
The TPS calculater should be working now! If not, its because wowwebstats is heavy overloaded and therefore my script wont be able to parse before it timesout (30 seconds).
I'm not sure if this is the right thread, but it seems to be a place to discuss general aggro problems.
Is there any different aggro component on Essence of Desire, or on the way Omen measures aggro on EoD?
Even though I maintain Curse of Tongues on EoD (using up global cooldowns), I find that I could cast only 1 shadowbolt every 5 seconds or so and I was still at ~110% of tank threat despite doing about half the dps I am capable of doing. The odd thing was that there were other dps classes who did more damage than me significantly lower on the meter.
By contrast, on this week's Teron, I did 1890 dps chainbolting and didn't even have to soulshatter. On both fights I wait till about 10k threat before I unload. There was only 1 hunter for both bosses, so no additional Misdirects.
I'm just curious as to why there is such a huge discrepancy. When WWS doesn't have 1 hour load times, I'll edit in the parses.
A quick question. Is there currently any alterations that need to be made in the calculations from Kenneth Gant Niebuhr - Online portfolie, or the WWS page, or have they been corrected? Like in earlier posts I noticed how it was mentioned they were calculating healing threat wrong, and it wasn't calculating critical hits or something.
