[Warrior] Thunderclap not doing full damage?

Something I've been noticing for a while and finally looked at properly in the last couple of days, is that Thunderclap (with the improved thunderclap talent) is not doing nearly as much damage as the tooltip claims.

With 3/3 imp tclap, my tooltip reads as 246 damage. Thunderclapping on a fully sundered mob (I assume that tclap is affected by armour now that it is physical) in defensive stance (so -10%) comes out at ~150damage. Thats a 40% reduction. Even counting the -10% from def stance armour would have to be giving a 30% reduction, which it clearly isnt. For reference, fired some shield bashes off straight afterwards and they hit for 62 damage (and the tooltip claims 63).

This seems to happen in many places, and I'm wondering if there's a known reason for it. Is the imp tclap talent not increasing the damage properly? Is it getting reduced by some other unknown factor?

Because it's Physical for some odd reason, and therefore is affected by armour. Go TC a rat, you'll see the difference.

On a related note, has anyone noticed that TC isn't critting that much? I hardly ever see it crit.

How is your int this days? TC crits as a spell, so you will have low spell crit.

Well Shield Bash is also physical damage, but he reported it hitting for 62 instead of 63 according to the tooltip, which is nowhere near the 40% reduction he observed for TC.

Unless for some odd reasons, a hit with a shield is not affected by armor, whereas a shockwave like TC is, there seems to be something wrong.

Last time I checked Shield Bash is not affected by armour, for whatever reason. Neither are shield spikes I think, not sure on that one.
The ~30% damage loss you experience is armour.

Also, mind that thunderclap has spell mechanics (17% resists vs. bosses, cannot cast while silenced) which may make it unaffected by 1-handed weapon specialisation. Shield Bash should get the 10% bonus though.

It uses spell crit, and warriors have 0 spell crit even with intellect gear. You only see it crit when you have explicit spell crit bonuses, i.e. gear, moonkin, totem of wrath, world buffs, consumables.

And this topic is really really narrow.

TC very much gets the worst of both worlds, it's does phsyical damage, yet is constrained by spell mechanics. Something intended by Blizzard?

It used to do nature damage, they just never changed the rest of the mechanics when they made it physical.

It was changed to physical so it would be usable during Twin Emps.

At the same time it broke interrupting bandages on BoP'ed players, guess it was a good trade for some, a lousy one for others.
