[Paladin] Aggro on Ashtongue Defenders at Shade of Akama

I hope this is correct at the class mechanics board as boss mechanics seem to be discussed at the public discussion board. If you feel it belongs there feel free to move the topic.

A fellow Paladin of my raidgroup asked me to forward this issue to the EJ boards.

He is a protection specced paladin and as such he was the natural choice to tank the Ashtongue Defenders at the Shade of Akama Bossfight in the Black Temple (he usually excels at tanking multiple mobs). In the beginning everything seemed to work fine, he could aggro and tank them without any problems. Than suddenly he lost all the aggro from all defenders and had to reaggro on all of them. This repeated several times in certain intervals until he was no longer able to regain the aggro of all of them.
Now one might assume there´s some kind of aggro wiping ability at work here, but the strange thing is - when we started using feral or warrior tanks nothing similar happened to them.
Now we´ve been able to beat Shade of Akama easily using a feral tank so it´s not really game breaking for us, but it´s irritating nontheless.
Did anyone of you experience the same thing or does anyone have an idea as to why this is happening?

Disclaimer: I haven´t been present when it happened myself, I´m merely forwarding the issue and hope I didn´t misunderstand anything he told me. If anything needs further explantation I´ll happily ask him though.

This issue has been mentioned at least two times in the Paladin MTing viability thread, tho I'm unsure if theres been any solution yet besides letting a warrior/feral tank them.

Sorry, I missed the initial mentions in the other thread.

Please post this in the Bug forums if you could though and if you have any combat logs to go with the information that too would be appreciated. Off the top of my head I can't think of any intentional reason.

Is this new in the 2.2 build or old behavior that guilds are just working past at present?

First off, sorry for starting another topic on this (I usually do better searching the forum before posting) and thanks for the reference to the other thread - I´ll check it and might post an update there if I find anything new.

As I wasn´t present when it happend I don´t have a log of the fight and I doubt the raidleader will have the nerves to let him do the tanking just to get one either. I´ll see what I can get though.

We've had this happen too, but only 1 defender would randomly run off and 2shot a druid, then run back to the paladin. Comical, but only the first time. We put a feral druid on the adds next try and killed him normally.

I remember reading somewhere (possibly in the monster paladin MT thread) that preliminary testing indicated no aggro mechanic from spelldamage on those mobs, but I don't recall any proof.

I'd be pretty curious about this if anyone can figure it out, but I can say that no prot pally I'm aware of has reported aggro on them being normal.

I'm the one who posted my experiences with the defenders. I also made a post in the bug forum, but I have no idea if the devs are aware of this issue.

The good thing is Paladins are perfect for the mobs that come out of the side doors. 3 mobs who come out every 35 seconds or so is tailor made for AS.

I've never bothered trying to test stuff on the defenders since my failed attempts to tank them before. It's such a trivial encounter that I don't want to make my guild waste time testing their mechanics.

For other Paladins, I'd just suggest enjoying your uber side door tankage and leave the defenders for Warriors/Druids. :P

As the person who was healing Eir, it seemed like virtually any action on my part to heal him would pull at least one mob off of him. I'm pretty sure my first lifebloom pulled at least one of the mobs. He could get the mob back off me quickly but once there were more than two or three of the mobs they were pretty much just running around causing trouble. We got the kill anyway but it added a certain excitement to it all.
