On balance it's this that is causing that, I think.

Yeah, the weapons and trinkets are all screwed up, pretty much ignorable.
I weighted defense low on a presumption of crit immunity already reached. Obviously when that's not the case, you do what you have to do (gems/jewelry/enchants/etc.).

Yeah, for physical feral tanking you have 3 pretty much independent things you need to assign weights to: +defense, +armour and stamina. The weights for dodge, and agility can then be determined. In my final weights I added in a dps component too, although even in full tanking gear our threat can be quite good.
One way I dealt with crit immunity is to work out what the best items you can get are and then work out the smallest sacrifices you can make to still get crit immunity. Obviously at the very least you can switch gems around a bit as one way. Some things like +12 defense on bracers or going with the pvp bracers are better per point of crit reduction than swapping gems though.
It all got quite complicated, but in the end the model you're using is just approximate. A perhaps bigger compromise is that there's considerable overlap between the best feral dps gear and the best tanking gear, so ultimately you're probably be using some hybrid items.
For feral dps I used crit rating = 1.5 AP, so agi = 2.8 and str = 2.7, hit rating I rated pretty lowly (1.2 AP), but because I play with a high latency is perhaps more important. For ferals haste rating would be pretty lowly rated, but isn't supported by lootzor.
I'm interested in how those numbers compare to rogues, because while not ideal, a lot of rogue items (the ones with agi) are actually better for dps than the feral ones. In some cases due to the lack of wasted stats they can be better than the feral items for tanking (especially if you're near the armour cap). Of course properly itemised cat and bear gear, or even decent hybrid feral gear (bonus armour, agi, sta, some str, some hit) would be even better.
I'm also curious about the suitability of the speciality gear for all specs, and general drops for the other hybrids.

Try Loot Rank - it has been updated for patch 2.3 and supports feral ap, expertise, armor penetration and haste ratings.

Thanks, that's awesome!
Tier 6 Mage Stuff through Loot Rank
Technically it overvalues hit, but that's because it's so easy to hit the cap.

For a DD, I prefer MaxDPS.com: A World of Warcraft Formula Site - News. Basically, it automatically weighs stats according to how much total DPS they add. I guess it's okay to use its recommendations as long as that doesn't let your stamina drop to some ridiculous low amount.

Copernicus,
Am I missing something about the lootrank site, or should socket values in your link be changed to something like 90/90/75/200 (rough guesses for somebody using non-BT gems, higher with free access to those) if you use a value of 10 for dmg and so on? The conspicuous absence of certain items alerted me to this.

Yeah, whoops. Thank you for catching that. Should be 120/120/120/400?, since I'm looking at BT gear levels. The CSD is kind of a guess, because it's about a 2% increase in damage and 14 crit rating.
Tier 6 Gear should be better.
Tier 5 Gear is what I get for SSC/TK/ZA level stuff. I started with a lower level of base damage, which decreases the value of ratings as compared to Tier 6 gear.
One thing to look at closely is how much weight I'm giving to Stamina (I personally rank 2 stam as equal to 1 damage) and that the second list ignores season three gear (because including it also includes BT/MH stuff).

Here's what I came up with on Lootrank: Resto PvE
Class: Druid
Armor Type: All
Stamina: 1.08
Intellect: 2.69
Spirit: 5.39
Red Socket: 72.8
Yellow Socket: 36.4
Blue Socket: 57.8
Meta Socket: 105
Armor: 0.01
MP5: 6.3
Healing: 4.05
Spell CritR: 0.62
Spell Haste: 0.46
All others are zero.

I've been using lootzor recently to save me the effort of plugging all the gear from wowhead into an excel sheet, however I noticed several issues with it:
1. Not all items in the game show up there. Mostly noticeable with certain T6 pieces, as already mentioned.
2. Wrong gem choices. Even when giving it weighting such that 2 mp5 > 9 healing, it would stick 18 healing gems in everything regardless of socket bonus. While it does seem to have some kind of a gem-choosing system, it seems to be wrong. Therefore if it chooses gems against your weighting you'll have to calculate the item values yourself in those cases.
3. Some items take a wrong socket bonus, like tarren mill's defender belt (reward from old hillsbrad quest) show a 3 mp5 socket bonus, and the consortium plated legguards (reward from mana tombs quest) show socket bonus if 9 mp5. Always verify socket bonuses.
How fast is thottbot nowadays and does it overcome these problems? And what does it lack over lootzor? For lootzor's sake I'd have to say it loads quite fast (as well as wowhead), which is the main reason I'm using it over allakhazam/thottbot ATM, as the whole point of this is to save time going over each item individually.

Now that LootRank handles sockets automagically I went ahead converted my old tank weights. Some fairly important tank gems (all the Enduring ones, specifically) are apparently measured incorrectly. They do seem pretty quick about fixing that sort of stuff so it shouldn't last and overall the site is still much more accurate and comprehensive than Lootzor ever was. The specific weights used here are intended to approximate my evaluation of stats for a generic high damage taken tank'n'spank fights, however weighting avoidance versus mitigation versus health pool for tanks is of course in fact a lot more encounter-dependent than this.

The lookrank.com service is still in beta and the gem values seem to be good now.
