If you'd like to use a buff canceling macro, that would certainly help with accuracy; however, doing so is not essential, as some fairly good estimates can be made without. In terms of how to collect data: the preferred method is to take a /combatlog of the test and link it in these forums, at which point people such as myself will download it, run it through any number of data analysis programs, and come up with an answer.

I know this isn't entirely on topic with the thread but has anyone tested Executioner vs Savagery for 2H DPS as a warrior?

As requested, here is the log.
Note: I was not able to use the cancelbuff macro because even though I found the one used to cancel DST, it wouldn't work for me when I replaced "haste" with "executioner," and my knowledge of macros being so incredibly poor, I did not know what I needed to change further to make it work.
Note 2: I tried to get a tick of bandage off sometimes, therefore the only 98% dps time.

Would it be possible to get a copy of the raw combat log as opposed to the WWS report? I have some programs written specifically to scrub the text files, so that's the easiest way for me, at least, to get data out, so if you could throw it up on savefile (or wherever) that would be helpful.

About 2.5x to 3x better on a debuffed raid boss.
Crusader and Mongoose (at high AP levels) were already more damage than Savagery. Savagery is for PvP where you want more consistent damage with on-demand burst.

So just wondering, how would this be for a ret paladin *scoff* I know but seriously.
Which would be best for raiding? Sav or mongoose or executor or crusader?

We had this drop for us tonight and I was all excited, until I read up on it and found that it doesn't seem like it does much for rogues, at least in comparison to Mongoose. Now I'm sad.

I got this tonight on my Cataclysm's Edge, didn't do any raiding with it, nor took any solid data, but I really like it... alot. Never been a very big fan of proc enchants, but wow, this one is nice. I've tried all different enchants on all different types of weapons, and this is far and above my favourite for a 2hander in a PvP situation.
Sorry for the sidetrack, just was very impressed with it tonight, I'm sure alot of 2H MS wars and pvp'ers would find the same results

Jep, got it on my CE as well yesterday. I only did some BGs yet, but since I have a good amount of armor ignore gear already I am getting some pretty sick numbers when it procs. Looking forward to test it out in raid environment on Sunday =)
Plus it probably has one of the best looking glows for a 2H weapon =)

If you are a dual wielding class, can you get double Executioner procs, like Mongoose?

1) This board is for theorycraft discussion, not your own personal Q&A session.
2) Your question isn't even meaningful, given that you list three weapons, don't tell us your spec, and add a random "etc" which could cover just about anything.
3) With that in mind, I suggest Mongoose on Dragonstrike, Executioner on Rod of the Sun King, Savagery on Thunderfury, and [Extra Arm] on your chest to let you equip all three. And you can put an intellect enchant on your [etc] in case it helps you do your own homework.

There is. The mod is called TargetArmor and I downloaded it from World of Warcraft Downloads | World of Warcraft @ Curse.com.
I'm not entirely sure how it works, but on the morogrim fight, it was pretty nifty how as armor reducing debuffs were applied to morogrim, you could see the armor value and mitigation percentage decrease. Once a mob gets to a certain reduced armor mitigation % (especially if you have at least 2/5 T5), eviscerate can be > rupture on an average (dependent on crit rate). This is more often true on lower armor bosses like Lady Vashj, but with Armor Penetration stats, might be more effective sooner.
One of the main rogues in my guild got Executioner on his Talon of Azshara this week, after Tuesday's raid. Given our plans for Sunday's raid, I find it unlikely that he will get any new gear before next Tuesday's raid, which should be a repeat of this one. If that's the case, I should have 4.5 hrs of pretty much exactly comparable combat logs from raiding SSC. I post stats to WWS, but can put up the unmodified combat logs on filefront when I get the second log. I'm definitely not expert at any kind of parsing. Note that he has warp spring coil (had that Tuesday and will have next Tuesday). He got the new leather moneybelt from ZA Tuesday night, which also has armor pen on it. Irrelevant right this second really. I'll list any gear or buff changes between the two raids when I have both logs.

IMO Executioner MH/Potency OH are the best Fury enchants.

I just got Executioner on my Rising Tide MH and have a Malchazeen for an OH with Mongoose. Stupid SB won't drop from BT trash and TB won't drop off of Winterchill...alas :/
Ran Heroic SP last night right after I got it and it puts up some rowdy numbers. I was getting about 1.6-2 ppm on each of the bosses, though some went down before a minute. On trash it was pretty noticeable as we had a Feral Druid tanking. and my BT crits were like 2k w/o the proc and over 3k with it. I wasn't paying attention to my AP buffs at the time, but I had static SoE all night as well as BShout. Rampage might not have been up, but a difference of 1k damage either way was pretty nice. Can't wait to raid with it.
I've been hearing some reports from friends that are liking Executioner/Mongoose respectively with SlowMH/FastOH and Executioner/Potency with SlowMH/SlowOH. I haven't been able to do any kind of testing DPS-wise myself with Slow/Slow combo as I don't have a slow OH.

I didn't notice it, and I'm guessing it's not here because of a lack of testing/information as of yet, but...
Will executioner ever pass mongoose if a person is wearing a lot of passive ignore armor? I know that stand alone mongoose > executioner, especially with double proc viability. The question is then, if you add ignore armor and the WSC trinket, does executioner gain any ground because of the non-linear nature of boss armor and damage mitigation?

Forgive me if it's posted somewhere and my search-fu is just that bad, but can someone point me towards an explanation of how armor penetration effects DPS? I'm seeing a lot of comments around that imply that each additional point of armor penetration increases your DPS more than the one before it, which confuses me a bit. I checked the "giant-thread-o-game-mechanics" but didn't see any mention. Thanks for any help!

An answer in a couple parts:
1) I don't think we've pinned down the proc rate off Executioner well enough to decisively say whether it's better than Mongoose for Rogues or not.
2) Assuming it's 1 PPM like Mongoose, I believe Executioner is already just slightly more damage than Mongoose (although you lose some dodge).
So the answer is: yes, at some point Executioner probably does pass Mongoose. Exactly when that happens will have to wait until we accurately pin down the proc rate.

I'm happy to go out and do some more testing so we can pin down that proc rate precisely, just let me know what needs to be done. I may even be able to have access to a faster weapon with Executioner (possibly a dagger) within a week or so, although who knows.

So, I ran some quick numbers on that parse, and here's what I've come up with:
There were 25 uptime periods; as 9 were over 16 seconds and 2 were over 31 seconds, there must have been at least 36 distinct procs. There were 716 melee hits. From this + statistics, what we find is that the proc rate lies between 3.4% and 6.6% with 95% confidence. Now, this does include 1 PPM (which would be 4.5% with a 2.7 speed weapon such as Talon)... but it includes a lot of other stuff as well.
Next steps:
1) Tests with a weapon of significantly different speed, either significantly faster (under 2.0) or significantly slower (over 3.5) - and the more different, the better - would help quite a bit in determining whether this is a fixed PPM or if it's percent-based.
2) Larger data sets would help narrow the uncertainty in the value.

I plan to do more with my Talon this weekend when I have some spare time. How much data are we looking for exactly? I can probably stomach an hour or so, but if we need a lot more I might be able to drag a friend along...
I'll upload the log when I'm done.
