[Paladin] Shockadin Theorycrafting

I recently respecced my Paladin Alt to 40/0/21 and am curious about Shockadin Theorycraft.

What is the relative value of stats? Stacking Spellpower is obvious, but what about the value of int, hit, crit and haste. Do classical melee stats have any benefit at all? Weapon Choice and Speed? Trinket Choices...?
Is it viable as a raidspecc? Mana seems to be an issue, but my equipment is a poor indicator.

I did not find any ressources (4 search results on the word shockadin in total Oo) in this forum, so I would be glad if you could share your calculations, spreadsheets simulators and impressions (;

And as always, if the information is already available somewhere here, feel free to delete this post oder concatenate.

Here's some quick math on why you don't see much Shockadin theorycrafting.

The shockadin has 3 basic DPS skills: SoR, JoR, and Holy Shock.

AA gets 7% of AP as DPS
SoR gets 9~% of +dmg as DPS.
JoR gets 9~% of +dmg as DPS (judged every 8 seconds)
HS gets 3~% of +dmg as DPS (used every 15 seconds)

Total DPS coefficients:
7% AP
21% +dmg (Modded by 10% Sanct. Aura and iSoR up to 26~%.)

For comparison, a 41 Ret paladin has:
7% of AP as AA DPS
3.9% of AP as CS DPS
2~% of AP as SoC DPS

4% of +dmg as CS DPS
2.3% of +dmg as SoC DPS
5~% of +dmg as JoC DPS

Total DPS coefficients:
12.9% AP
11.3% +dmg

Throw in iSanct Aura (+12%), 2h Weapon spec (+6%), Vengeance (+15%), and crit (conservative 25%):
19.96% AP
18.70% +dmg

I know I skipped a few of the multipliers available to the 40/0/21 Paladin, but overall the spec does not have the DPS coefficients (or mana efficiency) to compete with the Ret paladin. (There's also weapon DPS multipliers, which further favor the Ret paladin)

In conclusion, the 40/0/21 does not compete with 41 Ret for raid DPS. That's why it doesn't have theorycraft dedicated to it.

All that said, you're welcome to do the "optimal stat" math yourself. I'm sure someone is willing to review it for accuracy. (Also, this type of discussion about paladin DPS would probably fit better in the Ret DPS thread)

40/0/21 is a fair hybrid between doing damage and having strong healing abilities, but 1H dps will never compare to 2H dps of Ret.

Also JoR is spell hit/crit based while autoattack is melee hit/crit based, haste is a really nice stat (more SoR hits).

I didn't quite get this at first until I realized that you were dividing the DPS coefficient based on the cast time. Yikes, that really is horrible. I guess the only real benefit here is that +dmg does double duty as +healing, but even then you're not looking at particularly high DPS. You won't get the innate threat reduction either.

Shockadin is more of a PvP build rather than a PvE build. From Fiola's breakdown, we can see that the DPS over time is quite low, but JoR+HS makes up two instant attacks within a single GCD, providing decent burst.

Hit affects your melee, and since SoR will always hit provided your melee hits, hit will increase your constant DPS.
Spell hit affects JoR and HS, and will increase your burst DPS.

Classical melee stats beyond hit are pretty much worthless.

Melee haste has *some* value since you get more SoR hits, but does nothing for JoR and HS (and neither does spell haste), and is typically difficult to find on spell damage plate.

Weapon choice would be similar to a Shaman or a Prot Paladin - weapon speed does not matter, and you want as much spell damage as you can cram into your weapon. Unlike Prot Paladins, Shockadins can value spell crit on their weapons, such as [Bloodmaw Magus-Blade].

I suppose trinket choices would again emphasize spell damage. Pop everything (AW, Divine Favor, 2 trinkets) before you unleash your JoR+HS one-two punch.

All that being said, until we get a 200% crit damage talent (a lack we share with Smite Priests), I doubt Shockadins will become a viable raiding spec anytime soon.
