[Priest] Shadow Spreadsheet

Based off some concepts from a rogue dps spreadsheet, Firala has created a shadow priest dps spreadsheet.

Features:
  1. Complete Gear Builder
  2. Consumables
  3. Spell Rotation priority settings
  4. Buffs and other raid conditions
...and details results, with everything from max theoretical dps and endurance to mp5 generated, burnt and tps etc.

Firala hosts the Spreadsheet on his site here: [Shadow Priest DPS Spreadsheet]
As you will see he hosts a few versions, currently there is the 2.2 for use right now and also a 2.3 version for theory crafting the changes in 2.3 based off the most common ideas and concepts of how haste will work out for shadow priests etc.

As an example, at the time of writing this some notable information on my results are:

This should probably be merged with the Shadow Priest 101 Thread.

No, it shouldn't. It can be linked there, but it's fine to have a separate spreadsheet thread so that bug reports on the spreadsheet don't pollute mechanics discussion on 101.

I started testing this out. It looks like a good start. I recommend looking at the Hunter's spreadsheet for a good guide on what sort of features people will be looking for. All in all great start though!

I assume that when you reference a version for "2.3" (to account for the changes in spell haste), you meant 2.4? I have been looking for a spreadsheet that accounts for the haste changes. THanks for being willing to slave away at this stuff.

I ran through a few scenarios with the latest version of this spreadsheet and I wonder whether it's going to further account for party buffs. I see the BM Hunter buff is accounted for, the various totems, and Drums of Battle, but that's it. Hopefully we'll see this expanded a bit.

Yes, the version 0.9.0 updated the spreadsheet for patch 2.4. Firala is currently unable to develop the spreadsheet so I am taking over the project for the time being. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Current Goals:
-Implement a flexible 'wait' system
-Simulate Timbal's Focusing Crystal
-Finish adding a couple pieces of new 2.4 gear that were missed in the 0.9.0 release
-Allow for multiple Drums of Battle users in party
-Add Dark/Demonic Runes
-Implement the new 2.4 mana regen formula

Anedris 04/03/08 2:17 AM

The 0.9.0 version that I have does not have the epic haste gems (presumably because it was developed before those gems were announced).

Koroshiya 04/03/08 8:29 AM

Tymir I have an updated spreadsheet I'd like to send your way so we can get both our updates in together.

The epic haste gems will be in the next released version, I just forgot to mention that on the intended change list.

I found the following bugs:

- The Ember Skyfire Diamond seems to cause a circular reference, at least with the Soul-Collar of the Incarnate.
- The Icon of the Silver Crescent in the "Trinket 1" Slot causes a circular reference. Strangely that error does not occur when you place it in the "Trinket 2" slot.
- Not sure this can be called a bug, but I found no place where to actually enter the race. Since different races have different intelligence and willpower scores, this should affect the DPS, albeit very slightly.
- Devouring PLague is missing on your rotation sheet.

-------

Features that may be nice to have:

- One feature in the Rogue Spreadsheet I really liked were the filters, where you could reduce the amount of items displayed in the dropdown listboxes to only those from a certain set of sources, same with gems. (So you could e.g. display only crafted, Kara and ZA items and only blue gems.)
- The Save-Data feature, also from the Rogue spreadsheet. This one is actually very minor. All it does is upon pressing a button the current DPS is stored somewhere, and upon further changes to the gear/talent configuration the DPS-Delta to the stored configuration is displayed, nicely colored (red for DPS-Loss, green for DPS-gain) to boot.

Tymir and I are going to work on consolidating our two versions into a common file and work through some of these things.

I look forward to helping make this a solid contribution to the shadow priest community.

Oh I was looking for this for my Baby Shadow Priest. Thanks so much guys. hope you can get those two combined and will definitely be waiting for the final product.

Remember that the "Maximum Continuous Casting Time" does not objectively represent your DPS's sustainability.
I say that since if you for example gain stats that would double that duration it doesn't really mean you're twice as good as you were before - in fact you will have no idea how much better you are than you were when this number changes.

A better thing to do is have input for fight duration and put a "went oom: yes/no" result field and if it calculates that you do go oom, how much DPS was done with the mana that was available, as well as how much of the fight was spent not casting and/or how much DPS you lost due to mana issues and/or how much mana you would need to go all out and how much DPS would've been done if you didn't go oom. Including at least some of those instead of a misleading "Maximum Continuous Casting Time" result field would be a lot more useful.

Showing the DPS for each ability is also misleading, as not using that ability would not direcly reduce DPS by the listed amount (since you would've used other abilities instead during that cast time / GCDs).

I noticed that on this spreadsheet Zhardum is actually less DPS then Scryers Blade of Focus + Chronicle of Dark Secrets by about 15 DPS. Anyone suprised by this?
