[Rogue] instant damage.
There is a debate going on in the rogue forums over which forum to use when calculating instant damage multipliers.
One side is saying that the only forumla you should use is (Max Damage + Low Damage) / 2 = Average Damage. The other side is stating that you can use (Weapon Speed * DPS) = Average Damage. Both are correct, but on some instances, they give slightly different answers. Example being BOI vs ToA. BoI stats are: Blade of Infamy Binds when picked up One-Hand Sword 182 - 339 Damage Speed 2.60 (100.2 damage per second) ToA stats are: alon of Azshara Binds when picked up Unique One-Hand Sword 182 - 339 Damage Speed 2.70 (96.5 damage per second) Ignoring added stats to the weapon such as AP an agil, these weapons give the following average damages when using the two formulas: Seeing as they have the same damage ranges, using formula 1 they both have an average damage of 260.5. When using formula 2, they have average damages of 260.52 and 260.55 respectively. This leads me to ask, which formula does blizzard use when determining instant weapon damage? |
Those are just rounding errors. The DPS number is Max+Low/2 divided by speed, rounded to 1 decimal place; when you round and multiply back, you thus get a slightly different answer. Max + Low /2 is thus the more exact answer, but they're really more or less the same thing.

Must general wow forums failures at math be passed onto here to prove who's right...
