Warlock (otherwise)

Hunter (otherwise)

Priest (Holy)

Druid (Feral)
Paladin (Protection)

That would be 2 Sidetanks, 1 Healer, 3 Melee DPS and 5 Ranged DPS.
The other Slots can be filled up by other meaningful support functions (BattleRess, Hunting Party, Ferocious Inspiration, Mana Tide, etc), DPS, Tanks or Healer.

By the Way, Inspiration is supplied by a Holy Priest (Rank 3 Talent).

Thanks so lot
Doh, thought I caught all the errors like that. I guess not. I'll get out another version that includes that fix plus some new stuff in the near future.

Also, as far as the water elemental issue goes, WE is in there, it's just listed under the 'other' section of buffs due to the fact that it doesn't grant the replenish mana buff like HP/VT/JotW. Same with mana tide.

I know the thread and spreadsheet (very awesome work btw) is currently limited to "talents and skills" but is there anyway we can get this extended to professions that offer some raid/party wide buffs? I know a lot of those capabilities are still on the chopping block for WoTLK but will still, without a doubt, be instrumental/useful to raiding at some scale even if they plan to take the edge off some of the current (LW/Drum) stacking, I'm admittedly unclear on the current state of changes of these types of affects.

Saxe1978, it's necessary to balance it around having required healers as well, since they could possibly account for some of the buffs given.
I'm going to assume an ideal raid has 2 tanks and 7 healers.
In order to get all the necessary buffs* you need 14 People - 2 Tanks, 7 Healers, 5 DPS.

Of course, theorycrafting which raid gets you all the buffs isn't necessarily going to shadow theorycrafting for which raid gets you the highest DPS. Furthermore, we still don't know complete changes for all the classes, so everything is subject to change.

Right now, I've got:
  • 1 Unholy DK (Tank)
  • 1 Balance Druid
  • 1 Feral Druid (Tank)
  • 2 Resto Druids
  • 1 Mage
  • 2 Holy Paladins
  • 1 Ret Paladin
  • 1 Holy Priest
  • 1 Enh Shaman
  • 2 Resto Shaman
  • 1 Arms Warrior

I think the most important thing to note is that even though X class isn't part of this list, I don't see a reason they couldn't fill one of the remaining 11 slots.

*Unnecessary buffs include: Ranged Attack Power Buff, Cast Speed Slow, Damage Reduction Percentage Buff

I'd say you're missing Blessing of Sanctuary from a prot pally.

He said he considered that unnecessary. I would try to cover it if possible. The holy priest can spec disc for Grace to cover it, and still pick up inspiration. That doesn't drop any buffs or debuffs, although I'm not up on whether a disc priest is currently viewed as being able to adequately cover the healer slot.

I agree...its also a non-neglibible increase in threat generation from all tanking classes. Replace one of those holy pallys with a prot pally and everyone in the raid is happy.

Admittedly, I forgot about the recent change to Blessing of Sanctuary.
Assuming you wanted to add a Protection Paladin, you could remove that Unholy DK altogether.

The point is that different classes bring different things to the raid, not that some simply bring less than others without compensation. As it stand the only thing of note a warrior would bring over a feral is Sunder, which is replaceable by EA albeit at a non-trivial cost.
(Note: I'm not saying zomg nerf ferals buff wars, I'm saying these are the considerations that I would like voiced and taken into account when blizzard moves from their rough draft to their next polish pass)
DPS warriors don't need to have off-the-hook dps, just dps better than a feral druid. Which shouldn't be hard, dps warriors have always scaled better than feral druid dps. And EA is a lot more than a "non-trivial" cost, if a rogue were to keep a 5 point EA up, he would almost NEVER be able to use rupture. Maybe twice a minute, at most (EA is a 30 second buff last I checked).

That being said, I just hope my hypothetical wrath 10 man group gets all the buffs we can. :P At least the spellcasting ones, screw melee.

My main will be a warlock, and personally at the moment I think they're going to seriously redo warlock utility in the next pass over the class (should be happening this week or next). What does a destro give? Imp's HP buff (not gonna have 2 warriors or 1 warrior 1 ret pally anywhere in melee?) and CoE (which can be covered by TWO other classes, 3% more in the case of a moonkin). Other than that, you're down to class specific buffs, like healthstones, soulstone. Demo has that 10% spellpower boost talent or whatever (I lose track of what they've changed that thing to these days), and Aff has, um, the Fel Hunter Int/Spr buff, +3% on CoE, and...... um?

(Oh yea, CoWeakness and CoReck, not major buffs to be honest, not compared to CoE.)

Compared to something like mages, giving 10% spell crit, the only class to do so at the moment. Oh, and Moonkins, which give Spell Crit, Spell Haste, Spell Hit, +13% spell damage, a CoR debuff (faerie fire, at the same time as their "CoE").... christ is there anything they DON'T give (and -2% boss hit, though they'll probably glyph that out)?

imageshack bandwidth > elitist jerks traffic in my opinion. IS is a big site. Especially for 1 image in a non-class specific thread in class mechanics.

New version of the raid planner now available:
WotLK_Raid_Planner_v3_2.xls - FileFront.com

Includes Blood Poisoning, and also a new pet interface for both hunters and warlocks. Pets are no longer assumed for either class, you can now specify which pets are active in the raid. It's a little sloppy, but functional.

Other improvements to come when I'm not working 8 billion hours a week.

Just a thought of maybe adding in Demoralizing Screech, from Carrion Birds, into the hunter per skills. AP Debuff.

There are probably other pet skills that aren't listed but it was just the first one that came to mind while I was browsing at work.

EDIT: One more.

Lava Breath From Core Hounds.
