I think one of the main problems combat daggers suffers from is it has this massive reputation as being the "boring" raiding build that sucks for pvp, i cant comment really as i personally have never specced it, (i even have malch and enough points for a shiv if i wanted aswell as emerald ripper.) It just seems to lack fun things like sword spec (as an alliance rogue windfury is a whole bunch of fun and id rather have windfury for the fun factor over the poison no matter what the dps is like). Im not really sure what they could do for combat daggers to make it appealing, i still think the combat tree is definately the tree that requires the most work, things like vitality are utter trash, for me its _8 agility_ and 160 hp for two points, just awesome.

I agree with Asgorath for the most part.

1) The Synergy between a 5CP Imp Kidney Shot, Find Weakness and unleashing a Cold Blood Mutilate is not something to be missed.
2) I think it's worth the points when you're leveling, when putting more than 41 points into Assassination is more worthwhile than putting them into Combat and Subtlety (past Opportunity) because you don't have access to enough points to get the mid tier talents.
3) I really wouldn't trade my 3/3 Ruthlessness, 4cp finishers are well worth executing in a mutilate build, and with a solid crit rate you will be using a LOT of finishers (keeping Find Weakness up is a key tactic), so winding up with a 60% chance to use a finisher, gain 1cp, mutilate and immediately use another strong finisher is avery nice.
4) I'm one of those dagger only rogues that will never give up 2/2 Imp SS for just 2% more dodge. The utility of it is just too great.

I run a 41/13/7 build. Which I think is very strong overall, I do a fair bit of arena even though my profile is bugged and having Imp Sprint is lovely.

Anyone else have tried 40/0/21 Hemo build?

Today I tried it and found it quite competitive being 5th with DPS at Kazzak while I was buffing other Melee DPS aswell. Only buffs I had were Major Agility, Onslaught Elixir and Elixir of Mastery. Other rogues were using same buffs or maybe Fel Strength over Onslaught.
Zeegoch and Alas are Combat Swords and Fosco is Combat Daggers.



With this fast Combo Point generation you have Find Weakness up 80% of the time and Rupture is doing some really nice DPS along with Mangle debuff. Not to mention how fun it was trying to optimize my CP / Energy usage for having both FW and SnD up as much as possible. Also I found this build good for Arenas and Heroics.

If you have tried or are gonna try this please post your opinions.
I'm definetly gonna try this build at our next Gruul kill and hopefully see myself close to top DPS while other rogues are above me thanks to Hemo debuff.

I went ahead and respecced Mutilate, and I feel like I'm missing something. Perhaps this is the result of coming from a combat and then SF/hemo background, but while I can see that Mutilate is capable of pumping out good damage (if you crit), I feel incredibly vulnerable if I get adds (or a player of the opposing faction comes along), or if I fail to kill a mob within the initial stuns from CS and KS, since my main attack requires positioning. If I get an add, I have to finish off my current mob, then gouge the new one or just shiv/SS until I can KS (and hope KS cooldown is over from the last mob) and then Mutilate and hope for a crit. I could Blind the add but I would have to vanish if I want a CS.

Taking an informal poll of EJ rogues (thanks Armory!), Mutilate seems to be popular, with the rest being mostly combat. But I don't know what these folks are doing - raiding, other pve, pvp, etc. I could see a dagger build being nicer for raiding since (hopefully) you can happily stab away while the mob faces the tank. But soloing, it seems rough.

I am sitting at just over 20% crit, maybe 1250 AP, with a Hungering Spineripper and a Ced's. I had a somewhat lacklustre mainhand as SF/hemo... I wonder what the damage would have been like if I'd had something nicer (I was using a Nexus Claw from the Consortium vendor). Sword/mace/fist itemization seems like shit compared to daggers.

Mostly I just wonder if I'm missing something about Mutilate, or if I should try to get a good mainhand and switch back to my old build. Or I could go combat, although I find it somewhat boring compared to the neat things that subtlety offers.

Yep, and combined with the 2 pc Assassination set bonus its a pretty awesome haste proc, and quite cheap. I am guessing thats what you are wanting to use it for

Can someone offer me a refresher on glancing real quick. It was my understanding that glancing was 40% of your melee swings on mobs higher lvl than you, with the dmg reduction scaling by level, capped at 24% dmg reduction. So on a Boss, which is a +3 mob, you glance 40% of the time, for 24% of the dmg, netting a 9.6% dmg loss which you can not mitigate.

I am involved in another thread, stating mobs like Gruul, have higher glancing blow cpas, upwards of 50%. I had thought that seeing numbers like that were a side effect of how the parser parsed the data, and not actually a 50% glance.

It is a side effect of the parser. WWS shows glancing as a percentage of the total hits that connected for damage, but it's calculated in-game as 40% of all melee swings. Thus the percentage increase.
