Odd behaviour of raid interface
I've had this issue for awhile now and for last two weeks I am trying to resolve it but without any luck.
Basically I lag every time someone in the raid dies, joins, leaves, group change, zones in or out etc... Lag spikes are small but when you're first zoning into the instance it is horrible.
I've tried to stripp all mods out and it was still happening, then I moved WDB/WTF and Interface folders and it was gone for short period of time and it returned.
I've also found that using CT_RA fixes the problem. I would like to move away from using multiple raid interface mods. I've been using mostly ACE2 mods and short of going thru mods one by one and joining AV everytime I am at a loss as to what is causing it.
Edit: Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

If this happens with a completely virgin interface, have you tried running the repair utility?
back up anything important that you wish to keep (interface, WTF) first.

See you, auntie.

That's just weird, it goes away if I wipe everything but eventually comes back. Then I give up on trying to figure it out and plug it with CT_RA.
I've tried repair util long ago. I'll run it again tonight and see, if that fixes it and if it does. I wonder which mod could be screwing me over.
I've also tried disabling mods while having them in Interface/AddOns folder.

Tried defragging and making sure you have enough RAM/swap space? Seems a long shot, but those events might prompt reading of some heavily fragmented file, or making you run out of RAM and start paging.

I've been meaning to defrag for awhile now and I am afraid to look at the amount of fragmented files.

Try turning off the ct items and see if it still persists. It has had a history of this but normally it is tied to ctraidtracker.
If turning them off is the culprit I recommend you drop CT and get

That's odd because sticking CT_RA fixes the issue. I will defrag over night then tomorrow I will wipe the Interface folder and rebuild it one mod at the time.
I'll let you know if I am successful. This means I'll have to backup my WTF/SavedVariables folder.

The only time I experienced anything similar is when the "click click" noise bug was introduced. I'm not certain if they fixed it since I use nurfedui which has a built-in stop the click feature. The lag was related to sound options and not mods, as was first thought. You might want to check your sound options and set channels to low. I believe that was the fix going around at the time. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!
Edit: Just as a side note, I've found ctra to be a huge contributor to lag in general. Since switching to ora2 and grid I haven't had near the problems that ctra provided. If you like larger frames like ctra, sraidframes with ora2 is a good option as well.

My problems started around that time(when "click" noise was introduced) and has persisted ever since. Kicker was as I have mentioned before that CTRA fixed the lag. Considering I play w/o sound and game lags it was quite annoying. Turning sound on usually starts lagging me, but that could be problem with my computer and wow's new sound handling. I have Audigy 2 and computer thinks its SoundBlaster 9000. I am about 2 years overdue to reinstall the operating system.
I am in process of cleaning up my mods, about a week ago I've deleted all of my WTF files except for Gathere.lua which I need. No more CT_mods of any kind. I use ORA2 and Deadly boss mods instead of CT and bigwigs. Right now lag seems to have gone away, I'll see what happens next time everyone zones in at once.

Well even turning sound off, from what I was told, wont fix the problem. You have to adjust your sound channels and/or use the macro or a mod that disables the sound related bug (assuming that is a contributor to your issue).

I think it was outdated .lua files within WTF folder. After I cleaned it up again last night lag has gone away when people zone in and out.

Boomix, I am having the exact same issue myself, and have been for a long time.. What exactly did you do to fix it, and did you ever figure out what was causing it? (The outdated .lua files within the WTF folder = I am a computer noob and don't know what that means or how to fix it).

What he meant by outdated .lua files in the WTF folder was that you should remove your WTF folder (C:/Program/World of Warcraft/WTF/ or where your wow folder is), or if you don't want to redo your UI you could go over all the files and find those that you aren't using and remove them.

Basically what arch said. Except I nuked the folder by moving it to my desktop and then kept one and only one file Gather.lua, I use that for herbing/mining.
Reason I moved the folder instead of deleting it was, that I wanted to keep a few items from it for example macros, and few savedvariables. I have simply moved these back to the new WTF folder afterwards.
WTF folder contains all of your settings. Once you remove it, game becomes just like it was when you first installed it. All addons you have in your Interface/addons folder will create new .lua files and you will start with fresh SavedVariables folder and file. This is in essence house cleaning. I suspect that outdated .lua files were cause of the headache for me. I mean I have not cleaned that folder in a year, but in the meantime I have upgraded my mods a few times.
Outdated .lua files along with few other things have contributed to my problem. I will most likely reinstall operating system on my pc over the weekend. That in itself is about umm 1 day of work, considering all the apps, patches, games I need to reinstall not to mention I think my soundcard drivers are messed up. Audigy 2Z being recognized as Soundblaster 9000. Wth is that SB9K? Never even heard of it.

I was actually about to ask whether all the old SavedVariables I have lying around from mods I no longer use could be degrading performance. Based on this thread, it sounds like they can? Time to dive in to the WTF folder...I've been dreading it because it seems so convoluted. Settings are seemingly randomly distributed between per-realm, per-character, and/or global folders. Good times ahead.

Actually, I deleted my WTF folder completely and redid my entire UI, only to discover i was still getting the fps drop every time someone in a raid zoned in / died / rezzed or went offline (or came online). I have no idea what is causing the problem now, I guess I might try reinstalling WoW or just defragmenting my HD.

Back when everyone was having those type of problems one of the people I was playing with couldn't get rid of it, even with no addons and a reinstall they were getting it.
The next patch made it much better for them and then it fluctuated in its severity for a few patches after that.
I no longer play with them so I don't know if it ever went away
