Not to be a jerk, but these look incredibly similar to augf. Whats the difference?

syeren 04/03/07 10:32 PM

They're updated with new features and fixes a lot more frequently than AG, and these things are a lot better in using your PC's resources :)

If you do arena, these things have Party targets too :)

Hey all, ckknight here.

I started PitBull recently, which is my very own unit frames implementation.

It's relatively immature right now (2007-03-28), but things are progressing.

What sets it apart from other unit frames, such as agUF, is that almost everything is run in a modular fashion.
I have also paid extremely close attention to performance, especially with regards to frame recycling.

For example, if you hide one frame, all its child frames go into a big recycle bin. If you show another frame after that point, instead of making its own new children frames, it will reach into the recycle bin and reuse them. This cuts down on the number of unused frames immensely.

PitBull is made to be extremely modular and extensible, so as it progresses along, I hope you all like it.
Straight from the info page.

Checking the info page... well played indeed.

Not to mention the aguf author saying "Man, I really like these... if a couple more features get added, I may discontinue aguf and switch to these!"

I recently switched to X-Perl and have been very impressed by them.
It did take a little while to go through the options and get settings I liked but now I am used to them it would take a lot to get me to change again.

Facktotum 04/04/07 2:26 AM

as already said before these unitframes take less memory which i always look in an addon. x-perl takes too much and its bloated with everykind of eyecandy i dont need.

pitbull is one of those addons you either like or dislike....best features and ace2=goodness

Hows the buff/debuff configuring? Thats what pisses me off the most about aguf.

Basically just post in that thread and ask for what you want and it'll get implemented quickly -- that's how fast development is proceeding on these :)

Being able to place buffs and debuffs separately, and self filtering some buffs/debuffs would indeed both be could features to add !

Dotts 04/04/07 7:43 AM

your timing is perfect ck. aguf went all buggy on me and i lost raid groups 1,3 and 5 and i couldn't figure out how to fix it. No one knew on wowace forums either. So tonight i went looking for a replacement and i find this :)

Only thing i see so far is that sometimes the spellbar doesn't work and I'd like to move the buffs/debuffs to underneath the target uf.

Thanks for the tip, I'll have to try it out. To be honest, I've never actually been particularly impressed with any unitframes addon, each I switched to simply fixed a deficiency I saw in another.

agUF is annoying me because it keeps resetting my options every time it gets updated. 90% of the code didn't change, why are 90% of my settings changing?

Miaxi 04/04/07 8:20 AM

I tried those when I saw the official thread. Nice start, but a lot of things are still missing. For example I have no idea how to set the max length for a string. Extremly long unit names made a total mess off my test configuration.

I still think Nurfed is better even if there is no crew creating "eyecandy" for it on daily basis. :)

I was looking for a screenshot all over the place for these UF when I was looking to try out mods. So in the end I ended up with Perl Classic. I still think its memory hog and I am always on a lookout for better memory usage UF mods.

I saw these unit frames listed in wowace.com/files page so tonight I will give them a whirl.
