Has anyone been able to configure the default combat log to only show your damage abilities/spells/, the damage you take from mobs/boss/aoe, and direct heals from raid members on you? I tried using simple combat log but find it annoying to read. I can only get the damage I take and the damage I do to show up but can't get direct heals on me to show. Is this just something thats not possible using the default combat log?

Not possible I fear.
Heals don't work without showing all heals of all party members (and possibly all magical damage, can't remember right now).

Try to check this thread, there seem to be some decent addons posted there (personally I've switched to EavesDrop).

BTW, I can't blame you for not finding this thread. Doing a search for "EavesDrop" didn't show up the mentioned thread.

There's an addon called "SimpleCombatLog" that you can setup to basically show your outgoing dmg, your incoming dmg, your heals, buffs, etc. You can find it here.

The only thing I wish I could find is something that will let me remove Vampiric Embrace and Vampiric Touch spam from my combat log. I can rarely ever find anything useful in there because of those 2 spells.

In EavesDrop you can define a minimum heal amount. Everything below will not be shown in it (analog to scrolling combat text).
