Just wondering, but how does that functionality differ from NECB? Ive been reading of other mods that watch timers, but they all seem to sound like a subcategory of NECB that only watch specific spell casts (just a guess).
I use NECB as well, but it's filtered to watch hostile target abilities and cooldowns and not my DoT/HoT's anymore. In the past, I used NECB for HoT and DoT tracking, but it didn't register a new bar when refreshing a spell before a current HoT/DoT had finished completely. Tried Chronometer but it had a different issue of refreshing timers based on other people refreshing DoTs. There is a fix to Chronometer's code out there to stop it from refreshing timers based on other player's casting of the same spell but I've already moved on from using it. I then settled on DoTTimer as it has been more accurate for the times I refresh a DoT/HoT early and the added cooldown bars were a bonus too.
I thought the the tainting system introduced (in 2.0?) would prevent you from showing buttons in-combat? From what I read that seemed to be the case, and several people told me that sprocket would never properly work again (in-combat) because of it.
The initial incarnation of the system didn't allow it, but Slouken's done a lot of work to keep a lot of such things possible (Note however that that particular incarnation never even hit the live servers). Plus a lot of people making judgements on what was possible or not (Including myself I might add), weren't the best people to ask for such judgements.
That UnitActionBars thing I mentioned in my first post in this thread also works just fine in combat, which is why I like it quite a bit. It's far more convenient to right-click someone in Grid and select a buff in a little pop-up menu mid-combat than it is to first select them and than cast the buff.

By far the best mod I have, the one that I pray doesn't break everytime I see a new patch, is Move Anything. The ability to move (and scale!) any Frame - from Blizzard's defaults to other Mods' frames - is just incredibly useful.

MarsBar is another great mod for making button groups; one of the included examples operates similar to Geist
There are quite a lot of stuff that I use every time, I redo my addon (like bartender3, cooldown count (couldn't live without it) etc...but at the moment nothing beats eavesdrop for me. Its awesome to check what has just happened if you are busy with tanking because just reading a wall of text takes a lot more time than just glancing at eavesdrop and recognizing the symbols and relevant numbers.
If you are playing arenas, arenamaster is another must have addon imho.
The major problem I had with Geist was that it did not have a toggle feature. While the concept was great, having to hold down the Geist key while I select the spell I wanted was very annoying.
What I did was mod Geist to use a toggle style display instead being on key down. Now it is a lot easier on my priest to use Geist for buffing / drinking. On top of that you can keep Geist up in a corner, just like a normal hotbar.
The change that is needed is to replace the statemap for anchor-down / up, with a toggle for anchor down.
hdr:SetAttribute("statemap-anchor-down", "0-1")
I tried Geist again last night with this change and absolutely love it now. Thanks. <3

BindPad is another option for this, and I find the interface much friendlier than SpellBinder's.
I gave BindPad a whirl last night and you are right, the interface is much better. Thanks!
Another amazing mod for characters that have "chance on hit" type procs that are often easy to miss (Nightfall for example, which grants an instant cast Shadowbolt) is Power Auras (http://wow-en.curse-gaming.com/downl.../power-auras/). It allows you to set up textures of different shapes, sizes and colors when you gain such buffs or debuffs, which makes them extremely easy to notice.

When the patch drops and I make my goggles with the starfire diamond I think I'm going to install power auras just to let me know when I get the half cast time buff.
Inform your dealers and whores of my credit, and pour me a goddamned drink!

I LOVE that mod for this. I use it to track Nightfall (or Backlash when destro specced), Spellstrike procs, etc.
I also recently set it up to include a uniform graphic + timer for every possible PvP stun, another one for every possible PvP incapacitate, and one for silences. This is great for arenas as I don't have to glance at my debuff bar to see exactly what's wrong and how long it will take before I'm good to go again.

Right now I'm using power auras to let me know when Water Shield has faded. After having "tank the flares" duty on Curator and running dry on mana pretty fast, I wanted a way to make sure I'm getting the most mana possible from the shield. It helped a lot.
[edit] Necrotoid: That's a great idea. Where'd you get the list of the stuns/incapacitates/silences? Did you just spend a lot of time on wowhead/thottbot looking up spell effects?
Seconding GotWood. I don't know if it counts as a "given" but Clique. I seriously don't think I could play my shaman even doing meager enhancement spot healing without it. Click healing should be coopted by the next diku to hit the market; it's simply amazing and I can't imagine healing any other way.
Mages have a set time that they want you to ask for food, and that time is pull #4 of the night. You may notice them putting a little snack table down before the raid, that's them cooking the food for you to demand on pull 4. --Nork
GetOffGetGoing - mod for auto-dismounting when clicking on a flight master. RatingBuster and Lightheaded have been mentioned.[u] MountMe - auto mount selection based on location. SimpleMiniMap and Buffalo - Life changing.
I could be wrong, but I think they built the auto-dismounting feature into the game upon beta. I noticed while on the beta realm (and live, now) that when I speak with a flight master, and choose the option to see all available flight paths, I get dismounted. Might wanna check it out, free up some memory usage.
Another mod that I depend on heavily is ct_mailmod.
Whenever I mail stuff to my mule chars, I can go into the Mass Mail feature and just alt-leftclick everything I want to send.
The alt-leftclick feature also works in trade windows, so when I'm making a boatload of water for a raid, I can just alt-leftclick the stacks of water to quickly hand them out.
(I didn't think this would be a "staple" mod that everyone uses, but still quite useful nonetheless)

I've taken to using the ace version of both of those... Postal and AltClickToAdd (I think that's the name of it... at work so wowace.com = no go). 2 mods that do what CTMailmod does, only ace style. :]

I was under impression that alt+left click while trading worked for awhile now. I know I've used it for past 6 months at least w/o running mail mods.
I have switched to Gmail at the moment and it seems very decent because it has "return selected emails" option, so mass mailing between mules is easier.

Not only that it auto-clicks past the "DUR YES I WANNA RIDE DA PURTY BIRD" screens. It also autoaccepts teleports into MC and BWL.

Some mod you have is giving you this functionality... it doesn't work for me if I'm running a dry wow instance, unless it's an interface option I'm missing somewhere.

Would be a really cool idea to add to the default interface... hate having to drag pots by pots.
I haven't actually tried this but from a quick google I think it does more than GotWood. GotWood just tracks totem durations, whereas YATA probably has an interface to drop totems too? Can't check if this is correct, I'm currently raiding : P
Yes, YATA has both totem bars and timers, perfect for not cluttering your action buttons with a lot of totems you might need once in a blue moon. So if you have YATA you don't need GotWood but if you prefer GotWood you can still use YATA features

I haven't yet found a mod that has both totem buttons and the timer bars, but allows you to easily choose between more than one type of totem. Yata is nice but it seems tedious to drop an earth totem other than the one you have configured, for example. So I use TotemMenu to drop totems: http://www.wowinterface.com/download...fo.php?id=6467
It seems they broke geist in 2.1 for druids, if you use the default action bars. They gave us a new bar for moonkin (and I'm assuming tree as well) that it automatically switches to upon shapeshift. Having the extra bar is nice and all, but they took the slots from slots used by geist.
Found this out the hardway, in a ranked 2v2, switched to moonkin, and all of a sudden everything on my bars was food/water/healthstone.
I've switched that bar around to work in moonkin form, but now my geist bar is filled with a bunch of damage spells. Any suggestions?

If you aren't using all 120 actionbuttons, remap the geist buttons to higher-numbered actions than they are by default
(might want to try starting at 120 and counting down)

Geist uses action buttons 96-120 (bars 9 and 10, and the 12th button on bar 8) by default.
Can you change these manually? For example, if you don't use bars 5 or 6 normally (Blizzard bottomleft/bottomright bars), you could change Geist to use those bars instead. Or even if it's not an option, it might be a very simple code change.
Perhaps you don't use bar 2 at all (the "second page" of the main bar).
Warriors use bars 7-9 for their three stances (and don't use bar 1); do they have issues with Geist as well?
Druids use 1 for caster, 7 for Bear, 8 for Cat, and 9 for Moonkin/Tree, I believe.

Geist selects different bars deppending on the class. It already has special cases coded in for warriors. It seems that all you will have to do is add in another special case for druids.
