Any updated Character Planners out there?
Right now I'm stuck using Ctprofile, which is laborious and inaccurate. I was wondering if there was a character planner out there with an updated item-base.

CTprofiles was actually recently updated to include sockets that work properly. While their item database does need a bit more work, i.e. showing two Greater Inscriptions of the Knight, its been fairly accurate to a minor degree for me.
I just wish they would fix the way it looks as far as stats go by duplicating what blizzard did with their drop down menus.

CTProfile computed wrong health values for me by quite a large margin. I believe it forgets the vitality talent.
What use does it have for experimenting with gear, if it sometimes computes erratic stats? None.

That's what stemmed this request. Many values are incorrect, and their stat listing is incomplete.

I've never seen ct profiles actually be correct, however the in game character screen probably isn't correct either.

Don't know if this was mentioned elsewhere, but ctprofiles is being shut down.
Are there any similar tools? It would be neat to have a tool that somehow tied into the armory.

It has finally got to the point where it's simply too much work to 'fix' things. With several offers of help, only a few minor things were ever completed, and leaving Cide as the only coder was just not enough to get out from the overwhelming load. We're not happy to see things not working, but it just isn't feasible to attempt to fix them.
We still feel there is a very viable use for a custom profiling site, even with the armory out. The armory can't help you compare your crafted set to tier4 or 5, nor your arena gear vs. misc. pieces. We've started a very early stage of development for a CTProfiles2.0 project, which is essentially a complete recode, however we won't be releasing it any time soon. Our focus is going to be shifted back to CTMod, and we'll be working on a new unannounced mod that's been in the works for a few weeks, CT_RaidAssist2.0, some fixes and updates to older mods, and we'll continue to go from there. As for development of the CTP2 site, I won't even set an estimate of when we'd be starting work on it again.
The CTProfiles database server will be going offline in a few days, and all other servers will follow suit. CTMod and CTScreens will both remain up unaffected. The forums will also likely be coming down, as they're setup through CTProfiles, and I don't know if it would be viable to salvage them.
If you are a very experienced coder with large amounts of time you would like to put towards the CTP2 site, or one of the other CT projects, feel free to drop us a line. The issue with projects like this is that we don't make money from them, yet they require a very large amount of time to develop and maintain. Spending 6-10 hours a day coding is not unusual, but when things get done, we're usually quite pleased with the results. Sadly these aren't part time projects, it's a full-time hobby.
The good news is that we'll be able to spend time working on mods again, as CTProfiles was pretty much prohibiting any spare time, so keep checking the CTMod site for more info and updates.
Again we'd just like to say thanks to the millions of users worldwide. Over 5 million profiles were created, from over 150 countries, resulting in an average of over a million unique visitors every month, and well over a hundred thousand hits every single day. So thank you for making us the most used profiling site for any game anywhere. We're sorry we couldn't keep up, but hopefully we'll be able to do better next time.

Oh well, they provided a really nice service for quite a while. It will be interesting to see what they come up with and if the Ace fanatics on this forum will actually find use in it.

I was working on an offline version of CTprofiles. But I met alot of problems as Iam not a very good coder yet and did not find anyone interested in helping. The thing that made me stop was that I thought I could use a Database to store all item data in. But the way I got it implemented I every client needed an SQL client installed in order to be able to use my program.. And I think the fewest of people are willing to do this.
Hoeever if anyone is interested in trying to create some better solution please say so.

CTProfiles is going offline. I heard about some site called Rupture, but it requires you to download an addon that gets your info and then you upload that file to the page. I am not sure I trust it with all the keyloggers going around. If anyone else has any info on it please let me know.

You don't need to use their Automatic Uploader, instead you can choose to use a simple WoW-Addon: http://i.rupture.com/downloads/Rupture.zip
Then you will have to manually update your profile each time tough.

I believe that Rupture is more an Armory alternative than a character profiler. It allows you to upload your gear and current buffs and shows you your stats on a webpage, the same as the Armory.
I think what people are looking for is another CTProfiles or WoW Equip, that lets you play with gear/gems/enchants to see how your stats come out. An interesting problem...

As I said and no one seems interested Iam up for trying to make a new version of my application. It requires a few C#.net skills though, just the basics.

A lua file cannot read any sensitive data.
It's open source, everybody can view the lua files. Do you consider all your other addons to be safe?

Rupture is not open source nor is the lua addon (viewable source does not equal open source). But yes, you can just manually upload your savedvariables file for the rupture addon. And no, no sensitive information can be included in that.

I know, but to simplify matters we call it open source.
Actually I don't know if any addon was released under any license.

The armory got an update. It has a new "find upgrade" feature, that seems to move it in the charplanner direction. I am just looking into it right now.

Hmm... if blizzard moves to putting character profiling abilities on the Armory, would there still be demand for an offline/standalone character profiler? If so (or if the Armory continues to not provide profiling), what kind of utilities would people want to see packaged with something like that?
Off the top of my head, there's
* Creating/saving character gearsets (duh)
* Talent calculator (having impacts on stats?)
* Calculating spells/abilities (Theorycraft/Dr. Damage type numbers)
* Item weightings/search ala Lootzor
* Download current gear sets from the Armory?

is there a way to use the game files as the item database? from WoWModelViewer i know at least the models and names can be extracted easily enough from the game files, would something similar be possible for stats?

Whatever happened to wowequip the standalone windows app for character/gear planning...?
Edit: Ah the author doesn't have time to maintain it and open sauced™ the code here: http://wowequip.tehbox.org/forums/viewforum.php?f=3 unfortunately no one picked it up

Actually the way that the modelviewer works is that it has a text file that associates item names with models in the game files. The names and statistics themselves are maintained server side, or else any time a new patch came out instead of wondering what new and exciting items existed we could just datamine the MPQs the second the patch downloaded.
