Personally I actually find the top positioning preferable as well. I think it's just a matter of personal preference however. I do have my unitframes a bit lower than in the post you were replying to, but I do have them in the top part of my screen.
As you yourself said, action takes place in the middle part of the screen, but generally speaking (Well, unless you have a really huge monitor), you're taking in the middle of the screen as well as part of the top or bottom. I personally mostly watch the middle and top parts of my screen, hence keeping my unitframes in the top half is logical. It could just be a difference in general setup or just preference that does this. For me it's part preference, and part the fact that I'm a tall guy sitting in front of a desk barely coming above my knees on a monitor that isn't particularly large, which simply makes keeping my eye on the higher parts of my screen more "natural".

Changed some stuff on my priest UI, mainly textures and borders (thanks zork for providing the knowledge how to do it).
Healing spells are all bound to keys + clique together with grid for some actions (grid goes in the lower left corner above the chat).
I am not happy with some parts (buffs on pitbull, trinketmenu) but well I can live with it.

wow. i must say, this ui has caused me to go from heavy lurker of these forums, to register and post. I just want to say that is an amazingly clean ui, and i cant wait until you release it. (mostly because i cant name a single addon you are using, from the frames, to the bars) and this is a perfect example of how i have been wanting my ui to look forever, but until now i didnt realize addons such as these existed. i am looking forward to your release very very much.

The Basic UI
The Focus Target is to the right, and in a Raid the MT and MT-Targets are under that.
Here is some quick PVP to get a look at GRID, Omen, SWStats
In the top right is my Totem Timers and Buffs, along with the Boss Mods Timers
I like it, feels very comfy, kinda hard getting something streamline with a shaman.
Mods:
Atlas (+ Battlegrounds, AtlasLoot, OutlandMaps)
Bartender3
Nature Enemy Castbars
CT_Mapmod (it had all my herd locs from over the years)
CT_Mailmod (can't seem to find anything like it yet)
Deadly Boss Mods
eCasting Bar
eePanels2
ElkBuffBars
EQCompare
EQL3 (Awesome outdated questlog that still works wonders)
Fubar (+ BagFu, ClockFu, DurabilityFu, MailFu, MoneyFu, OutfitterFu, PerformanceFu, SWStatsFu)
Grid
LitheTooltipDoctor
Omen
OneBag, OneBank, OneRing
Outfitter
Prat
SCT (+ SCT Options)
SimpleCombatLog
SimpleMiniMap
Totemus (+ Sphereloader)
SWStats

This is a little larger than most, but I run with two 22" monitors. I'm the GM of a guild and run a raid alliance, so I have a lot of chat to catch up on...but I like being able to see my screen!
Pre-dual monitors, I had to fit everything (at least, with three chat panes) on one monitor, which was rather horrid. It ended up looking like this:

Alright, it was 6am, when i made my last post. But, can i please ask what unit frames those are? And how do you get that constant theme around everything? The fubar type mod, bringing it around the chat windows, around the minimap etc. And in the combat shot, you even have omen, and damagemeters following that theme. And if its not too much trouble, i am interested in what action bar that is.

In Combat w/ Target.
Using VisualThemes aswell, as shown in Sethik's UI vid. I've since changed the Parrot font to match the UF's. Raid Frames go in the bottom left, growing upwards (don't have a raid shot handy atm unfortunately. Guess I'll add one later.)
About the ridiculous amount of buttons ... I switch itemracks often and quickly between pulls etc. so I prefer having them there than having to browse the little menu. Just not quite sure where to fit my NECB, Trinket Menu and coolDown2 intelligently :/ (ignore the quartz enemy debuff bars, those are gone now)

Updated a bit. Still not quite happy with it. Any suggestions would rock, I'm not happy with placement mostly now. Looking for something away from dead center bottom though.

Its important to know how the file is called, if the source reads like this: xyz = "Interface/Tooltips/UI-Tooltip-Border" it will use the original Blizzard tooltip-border. But if you change it to: xyz = "Interface\\Tooltips\\UI-Tooltip-Border" it will work properly.

Sorry for quoting something quite a few pages back but if you wouldn't mind explaining this a little further Zork I'd really appreciate it. I'm not extremely computer savvy so what you've posted that I quoted doesn't really make that much sense to me. I guess in particular I'm talking about your examples in quotes, is the difference in whether or not some addons find the border really that some files are using the root with a bracket going / instead of \ and one bracket instead of two? Is that what makes the difference?
I've been trying for a good couple of hours to get borders around a totem timer mod that I use(Enhancer), I started by going through all of the .lua files in the addon and doing searches within them for exactly "Interface/Tooltips/UI-Tooltip-Border" and changing them to exactly "Interface\\Tooltips\\UI-Tooltip-Border". I even went through and searched all of the libraries in this addons folder and changed the text just like above but still no luck, default borders.
I also did a couple of searches on my computer for the quoted text but it didn't seem to make much sense, I get about 180 results most of which .xml files of various addons, some .txt files that are usually just changelogs in my addons. and stuff that just seems unrelated. I'm also on a mac so I can't narrow my search down like you suggested.

Hey Caith! Your UI is pretty awesome and I'd love to try to make mine like it. Is there anyway you could explain how you did the borders around everything? Also how'd you get your DOTimer to match it so well? Sorry about the noob ?'s but if you or anyone could answer i'd greatly appreciate it
P.S. If anything just your addons folder would be sweet if you don't want to explain it all :p
Thanks

It's a custom art of Pitbull with OnScreenHealth on the left and right supposedly. The FuBar type mod is FuBar with full transparency and eePanels in behind. As he stated some Panels are scripted (like the chat and combatframe). You can look up some scripts on the eePanels2 WoWAce wiki (i.e. to show/hide some eePanels only in raid). The action bar seems to be Bartender oder something like that with a cyCircled theme.

Thanks a ton, really. Ive been desperate to find how he did some of those things, but i suppose I'll probably just wait until he releases it, and I'll have that to work from. I don't know code or scripts or anything, so if I attempted anything similar I would probably fuck my UI up bad.

You are very welcome. You have talent when it comes to designing a very nice, uncluttered "calming" interface. I cant wait to raid with this, after i add a few touches of my own.

Still a work in progress, sorry I didnt get a raid screenshot..
Trying to find a better place for my Trinket Menu and Shapeshift bar.
Heavily inspired by Caiths UI and a few others. As with almost any UI designer I troll boards constantly lol.
