Sanity Bags (Antiarc is my hero :swoon:)

NOTE: I have nothing to do with this mod! I will, however, try to keep this post updated. (last edit: 31 May 2007)

Sorry for letting the cat out of the bag, Antiarc

So instead of derailing the Omen thread...

Sanity Bags!

The filters I used here were:
  • pt: Consumable
  • quality:trash
  • type:Armor, type:Weapon
  • pt:Tradeskill.Mat !Consumable !Armor !Weapon
  • type:Quest

Type is for things like Quest, Weapon, Reagent.
pt is for the Ace library Periodic table. It has a hierarchical format and is mostly broken into Consumable and Tradeskill. You can dig around in the Ace libraries (I used a text search...) to see the subdivisions. I have another bag that is something like "soulbound:false type:Weapon quality:!trash, soulbound:false type:Armor quality:!trash" to show unbound BoE loot. That may be able to be simplified, but results vary.

Per Antiarc:
The Sanity framework has a few issues right now, but memory is not one of them. SanityBags is lean and mean.
- The filter tokenizer is borked on complex filters right now
- Custom cats/tags are Sanity2-only right now, but you'll gain the ability to assign them without Sanity2 eventually.
- There are problems with anchoring and position restoration - I'm aware of 'em, and they're on the todo list
- Bank bags for SanityBags are planned and semi-finished, but were taken out in the current versions due to incompletion.

Does it mark new items as 'New' in the same way that Baggins and ENGInventory do? I looked but can't see it mentioned anywhere in the Wiki page.

Not in any way that I've seen.

Also, if Antiarc happens to see this sometime: which is correct "type:Weapon, Armor soulbound:true" or "type:Weapon soulbound:true, type:Armor soulbound:true" neither or both?

I recently started using ArkInventory which I find quite useful, but I have a similar question: Why would I want to use Sanity over Ark?

i really like this mod, maybe i was just dumb and didnt realize onebag had similar features, but i replaced it last night with sanity. one problem though, sometimes items dont reappear back in bags for awhile after changing the filter of one, or items i just receive can take a bit to show up. is this something others are experiencing too, or did i mess it up by not using filters correctly? i want to keep using it, im just scared that i will loot a tainted core during vashj and that it will get lost : /

and now logging back in all the slots are messed up and the filter reset when i chose show filter once, perhaps i will just wait for a final release.

I have the problem also. The items end up in the wrong bag or under the wrong filter. I'd wager it is a kink to be worked out. I only found the mod because Sanity wasn't loading due to the new dependency.

Because you like it better. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it. :P
Personally, Ark drove me crazy. It kept bugging out where I could only use a slider once per session, I couldn't rhyme or reason how my bag positions could shift between "edit mode" and regular (nooo, I said consumables on the LEFT), I didn't like the lack of ability (or perhaps that is hidden somewhere) to move the sections around, it made my girlfriend throw things at me...but I digress, bugs happen. If you are happy with ark, and the concepts of bag filtering that this mod supports (as opposed to those supported by other mods) don't entice you - stick with ark

See you, auntie.

I tried this out briefly yesterday. I could not see how to "tag" an item if at all. And I didn't understand the dependencies at all - do I need Sanity2 or not? (The wiki seems to say so, but the mod didn't seem to care that I didn't have it)

Wheredo I bind a key to make all the bags open at once after I create them?

I was actually wondering this as well. Is it done command line in-game? Is this something I edit in the .lua file? In the GUI? It looks promising, but I'm stumped on how to actually get it to work.

Each bag you create has both Filter and Search input areas at the top of them. You type the filters you want to use in the filter box and those are the only items shown (or excluded) in that particular bag. Hovering over this box will give you a large tooltip with instructions and sample filters.

The easiest way to find the correct PT3 filters (if you are using them) is to download PT3 Browser and use that to find the correct categories for what you want.

Once you have your filter set how you want it, you can then hide the filter box in the menu.

I typically check 'Open with All' in the options and then just use the normal B key to open them all at once. I think you can also bind each bag individually as well.

Can't help with your other question, but I know why this is. The mod used to be dependent on having Sanity2 installed, but Antiarc moved that code into a separate mod called SanityItemCache, the Wiki page is just outdated.

In order to set custom Tags and Categories, I believe you will need to have Sanity2 installed and do it from that interface by right-clicking the icon for the item.

Both the latest Sanity2 and SanityBags use SanityItemCache to store all of their information. Neither require the other to be installed. Think of them each as different ways to display the data held by SanityItemCache.

Does anyone have insight to offer on docking the bags?

My girlfriend got them all to dock together (I swear it probably took her 20 minutes) but neither of us could replicate the feat on my bags. I now have 2 groups that move together and some odd bags that don't dock.

Malan - my normal keybinding works for toggle all bags.

As far as I know you need Sanity2 to add tags to things, or to redefine the category/type of something. I've been having the same issues with bags not quite working right. I created a trash bag, along the lines of "quality:trash name!Dilapidated, quality:uncommon soulbound:false" (I have a pimp hat I wear on special occansions, wouldn't want that to get mixed in with the trash). Sometimes grey items would appear in my regular bags, and sometimes motes would appear in the trash bag for some reason. /console reloadui usually fixed it, temporarily at least. Also, at one point, despite having a "hidden" gear bag ("soulbound:true type:Armor, soulbound:true type:Weapon") all my gear appeared in my backpack and the gear bag.

That being said, when the kinks are worked out, this is an amazingly customizable and intelligent system(though sanity2 itself sometimes randomly reassigns my categories =().

Seems kind of like a pain in the ass if I need to have Sanity2 installed just to edit tags on items.

He still has alot to do with the addon yet, so please don't consider this a finished product or judge it by such standards.

As far as docking you should jus thave to move the bag close to the edge of another bag to dock it. I've only docked to the main bag, but I assume you can dock to any. You then move the bag you docked to to move the group. The border highlight indicates what bags are in your current 'group.'

Is there a Sanity Bank? It's jarring going back to the plain ol' default bank from my old sorted one using ArkInventory.

It's still very unfinished.

- Caldar has the docking mechanism right. Move a bag close to another bag and it'll dock with that bag when you release it.
- The filter tokenizer is borked on complex filters right now
- Custom cats/tags are Sanity2-only right now, but you'll gain the ability to assign them without Sanity2 eventually.
- There are problems with anchoring and position restoration - I'm aware of 'em, and they're on the todo list

I run Bongos, which shows mod memory usage if you scroll over its performance bar. Baggins was worse than KTM. I haven't completely set up Sanity Bags yet to say how much of an improvement it would be, but it looks to me like Baggins is a serious memory hog.

The mod is definately promising, but out of the box its not the ease of use that Baggins is.

Remember that Ace Addons have libraries embedded in them, and load alphabetically. Your Baggins entry may have been masking the library usage for all your other Ace addons if Baggins loaded before the other ones. I know my Antagonist looks like it takes up a lot of memory for this reason, when really it's quite light.

Renaming the addon may actually change it's performance characteristics :o

If by "just noticed" you mean "the coder of the mod posted this 3 posts above me" then yes.
