I feel pretty stupid for asking this, but exactly when do you get the FPS issues?
- When you create the macros and have them in your macro list, or
- When you put the macros as button on your action bars?
I did understand that actually executing the macro (pushing the button) may cost some more FPS in some cases, but can the general FPS drop be avoided by removing the macros from the button?
Didn't manage to figure that out from reading :o
Edit: Copernicus, what you mean is that only having the macro causes the effect, no matter they are on your hotbar? (I'm feeling really dense today )

Based on a bug I was having earlier, macros with conditionals are constantly tested for accuracy. I had a macro with a misspelled conditional that wasn't on my hotbar. Until I deleted it, I had an error message that I could not remove. This happened after yesterday's patch.

I changed all of my macros to have a #show none at the top. My fps went from a steady average of 35fps to a average probably closer to 55-65fps. I used to be a solid 35fps EVERYWHERE I went (except raids, where it dipped down lower), but now my FPS fluctuates between 35 and 90fps. Woohoo!

Can anyone confirm if this is still an issue in 2.1.2?

Not at home currently but I imagine it still is. The blues mentioned a fix will go into 2.1.3 as it was too late to make it into 2.1.2

Macros with conditions may cause UI errors even when they are not being used - fact
My friend was trying to make spammable AM macro with channeling condition, long story short he fucked up some spelling and forgot about it, dragged his AM spell from spellbook and next time he used AM he got UI error... good thing he was sure he didn't change any mods so he figured out rather fast that deleting that macro made error disappear
So my guess is macro conditions are being evaluated probably every frame?

I haven't noticed a large difference during the use of my diverse macro repetoire. However I always lag for at least a second whenever I make or use a soulstone post-2.1.
Has anyone else noticed this?

that just blew my mind... my FPS has been in a steady decline since TBC came out and I have no idea why. If this is correct im sure there is some messed up code somewhere. However I tested it with no results and the Blue post on the last page cleared that up.

Holy effing $@*#!. I've been plagued with FPS issues in the last couple months. I have a 3.8ghz Dual Core Pentium, 3gb of Ram, dual nVidia 7800 GT's, and I've been getting 20FPS while idle in SSC or any BC raid. The FPS then dips down to 6-8 during boss fights or big trash pulls.
I'm now sitting in SSC after making this change and I'm stoking 70-80FPS. I have no words to describe how much I owe you. Seriously.
This is now a post on my guild forums and our GMotD.

Yes thid issue and most of all the workarounds ought to be put up as a sticky on the blizzard forums. They don't realize how serious this is and how many people are affected by it.

So that it doesn't check your macros over and over again?
so:
#show none
*rest of the macro*
?

The next PTR notes that have been posted confirmed that there will be a fix for Macros affecting FPS, apparently it really had something to do with some of the dynamic effects in macros.

Hmm, it only suggests that changes were made so that framerate will improve slightly. Guess we'll see whether we'll see need those extra characters in our macros.

Yea I'm a little wary of the way it was worded in the patch notes, they made it sound like "we're not sure we really fixed it or not, so we'll say 'slightly' to appease the EJ forums and the like". It seems like a simple enough fix, considering the the way macros are being evaluated currently; or our assumption of how they're being evaluated at the least. Also, I think more than a few posts have been made in regards to it not only being the macros with conditionals and their evaluations, but macros in general. "/cast Spell1" macros seem to be having some effect, if not so dramatic, as the more complicated ones and there's no mention of those in the notes.

I did this same test changing only my macros-cache.txt to macros-cache.txt.bak in server and the character i was loading it was a huge 10+ frames difference (64 without 52) with them on.
I have very little modifier just battle stance etc ones. This worries me somewhat

Uhm, before i read this post i couldn't eve immagine that macros can affect FPS _THAT_ much...
immidietly after i did my own test and resuts are kinda shocking:
Almost every single skill i used was macro'ed with allot of conditions
there we go:
before this test i backup'ed my macros-cache.txt (both of them)
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/7...2483190bx4.jpg
steady FPS at lvl of 110-125 FPS with all my addons on and zero macros...
I copied only local macros-cache.txt file back (charracter only macros)
and then after client restart I did same text... the difference was insane:
http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/7...2515948ru4.jpg
69-75 FPS.... in absolutely same conditions (same place, camera angle, addons), but with 17 macros with conditions settings.
That's my macros-cache: http://tinyurl.com/2k3tvl
I couldn't belive in this tbh ^^ so i manually deleted all the macros ingame and FPS leveled off at rate of 115-118, that was really shocking for me oO
I'm going to do some tests to figure out which conditions affect on the game performance that much
*Edit: It seems not alll conditions affect FPS
for example i didn't notice any FPS difference with [modifier:alt/shift/ctrl], but on other hand some of conditions make me lose over 10 fps
e.g. [target=targettarget,harm,exists] , [harm] , [help] etc.

The Patch seemed to break the "?" macros for Items.
I used to have two macros for my trinket slots:
#show 13
/use 13
and
#show 14
/use 14
These nicely had buttons that had the icon of the current trinket (with cooldown!) showing. Now, after this "fix" this is broken.
Is there any way to get the macro conditional icon to work with items after this change?

I think the thread on 2.1.3 changes in the main forum had some posts on this. I know I saw them somewhere.

Did you also change your icon for the macro to the red question mark? I use alot of the same conditionals you do but use the pre-made icons from the list and no the question mark.
Also, ran Kara last night and still have FPS issues. Does anyone know if the patch work they did actually fixed the problem or not? Anyone take off the "#show" commands and see if they are have issues still or not?
